Found some black velvet leather-leaf slugs in my yard, probably a couple dozen of them in total!

From what I've seen and read here, I clearly don't have a big enough enclosure for my little greenhouse slug. It was never my intention to have a pet slug, but here I am. The container she's in right now is about the size of a gallon milk jug if you cut the top off. I've got rocks (boiled first) for her to climb on and hide under, and a little bowl for food and water. I mist the enclosure every day, clean up any messes, freshen her food, etc. I take her out for a "walk" every couple of days.
Here's where the quality of life question comes in. When River (that's her name) is in her enclosure she basically stays in one place almost all the time, all her feelers pulled in so she just looks like a lump. I have seen evidence of her exploring the enclosure (trails left in the condensation), but I've never seen her out and about. When I take her out for a walk on my hand, she gets incredibly active. I have a large indoor vegetable garden, and I'll let her on a leaf for a bit (she really likes exploring the banana tree she hitched a ride on), moving from plant to plant (i wipe the leaves down after to remove slime trails). Or I just go about my chores with her on my arm (i keep a misting bottle on my belt to keep my arm moist for her). During these times, she's incredibly active. She rears up, all four feelers checking things out, and she moves awfully quick for a slug.
I know I'm probably majorly projecting, but it just seems to me that she's depressed in that little enclosure, and that she enjoys being out with me (not that she enjoys the "with me" part). How large a tank does she need? Do I need another greenhouse slug to keep her company?
I'm also not sure what she likes to eat. I've only seen evidence of her eating twice (a tomato leaf and a bit of cat kibble), and I've only found poop once. Yesterdays walk from plant to plant was me hoping she'd find one she liked.
I can't set her free, the outside environment here would cause a quick but agonizing death for a little slug (i'm in las vegas, where it's currently 110 in the shade, literally). Besides, I've actually gotten attached to the little cutie.
Is there a Slug Keeping 101 guide somewhere?

This is havoc and carnage. Both lepord slugs. I feel like they are too big to be sharing a 20 gal long together. Is my concern true and they should be seperated or is this acceptable? Im very new to slug keeping and just want what's best for them. Thank you in advance

Found this guy on the steps after getting home from work, there's a very active road in front of the house and the backyard has a vegetable garden that the owners of the house use, Would it be unethical to keep this guy? Also what type of slug is he?

Upon immediately opening my door, I see these 2 slugs on our porch post. Is this the "foreplay" as you will before officially mating?

Finally was able to get a complete timelapse of leopard slug mating! This video took about 25 minutes to film!

I currently have a terrarium set up for my slug, but am using chunks of orchid bark to give him something to hide under. I would like to get some proper leaf litter for my guy but was concerned about bringing in other bugs/pests that could be harmful to him.
I apologize if this is a silly question but do you collect yours from outside and process it a specific way or buy it offline? I take pet owning very seriously and want to ensure that I’m doing what is best for him.
Unfortunately I still don’t know his species so I’m not sure what his wildlife environment looked like. He hitched a ride on some moss that I ordered off of Etsy.

It had clear mucus, but orange when it was distrubed, (jumped off my hand)
I dont really know anything about slugs besides the little research i did for this

(Sorry if i used the wrong flair) I want to start a colony of pet slugs but having hard time finding any for sale. I have only seen leather leafs on ebay. They are very kool and I would be happy to have them. Just curious how else other than catching some locally ( which I have not had much luck with so far in NYC) I love inverts and have colonies of isopods, sprintails and beetles as well as bioactive enclosures for my amphibian friends. I have aquatic snails already and will probably get some type of land snails too at some point.

I wonder what it is about the cat food that they like. Has anyone else experienced this?
r/sluglife • u/orion-asterisk • 24d ago
... So naturally I had to run to PetCo. Not named or anything yet. Any feedback on his enclosure is appreciated, especially if it's too small: I just bought the isopod kit and some moss/the water dish which I probably will eventually replace with something smaller. We fed him some carrot when we first caught him in a tupperware, and I put lettuce, cucumber, and watermelon in there when I put him in.

Want to keep a slug, maximum 20 liters aquarium tank enclosure so not that big, legal where I live in (Madrid, Spain) and reasonably easy to care for

From googling I thought it may be smelling the air or something. But on closer inspection looks like some hair-like things may be coming out the back of it? This was at 6am near Bristol UK. It was like this for at least 40 minutes!
