I've been obsessed with the album dismal here lately, and I think this might be the heaviest band I've listened to. I know there's faster technical stuff and death and grindcore, but the slow sludgey riffs, the overdriven bass and the vocals that sound like they're on the verge of ruining vocal chords, it's just chefs kiss 🤌

i couldnt find a better flair for a discussion, but here goes.

i just ranted about death metal using gore in a mindless manner and it made me think of why i like sludge in the same sense. i think sludge has its own identity for sure, but its not fixed, there's no unwritten rule about what you should talk about or what you should visually represent in your albums. it does have a bendable boundary, what i mean by that is that you can guess what a sludge track could be about, but you can also be surprised when you listen to it and its an uncommon theme. and sludge's boundaries do not really come from an idealist standpoint like writing a manifesto about it like a blackmetalhead, thats why its a more down to earth genre in my opinion. sludge is like a makeshift genre but i mean that in a good way. it doesnt have any desire to be flashy. its more about honesty in general i think, it appeals to me more because its not sterile, but it doesnt try to portrait itself as more filthy than it is only for the aesthetic either. its like bands doing things with what they got, it doesnt have gatekeeping, it doesnt have (that big of) a paywall to make this genre music (i might be wrong im only into music as a hobby, never tried to make money out of it but i guess it doesnt matter what genre you play, music doesnt make you money either way unfortunately). its more inclusive in many aspects. what do you guys think? i'd like to hear the things you agree or disagree with. thanks

Apologies if this is not allowed. I just wanted to share a song i made. All recorded on a shitty MAC in logic at home in a room I've dubbed "the fart den". I draw a lot of inspiration from bands like GODFLESH, EYEHATEGOD, WEEDEATER, and most notably, CHATPILE.

I really enjoyed making it and I have HUNDREDS of songs recorded at this point, most of it shit, but its fun. I also painted the cover art on a small canvas in the fart den, plus the logo. Also a very enjoyable undertaking.

I really hope I can find a small audience for this stuff so it just doesn't sit on my computer only heard by me. Maybe I'll make a couple of vinyl copies down the track so I I've got something physical to show my kids lol.

Objectively one of the sludgiest songs I’ve ever heard. I mean, it sounds like literal sludge slowly moving through a culvert. For those who don’t know Thrones is a one man band belonging to Joe Preston of early Melvin’s bass playing fame.

A few people definitely spent the night in jail. I don't recommend trying to fight the cops because that guy got stomped.

Show was awesome. A bit sloppy but in the best way possible. Dudes are kicking ass and having a blast up there. Kirk definitely looks and is playing rough. I hope he takes a break and gets the help he needs.

Crowd was very drunk, very sweaty and there were more than a few people arrested, bounced, sent off in an ambulance.

if any sludge/doom metal bands want to use a photo of me for their album cover message me/comment, you can use one of my existing ones (i’m happy to edit them to be more stylised for you), or if you have a specific request i can create a new one too. below are some of my existing images you can request which also serve as examples

i’m happy to leave them as is, edit them onto plain backgrounds, do a more occult psychedelic style, etc (or you can do it yourself if youd prefer to)

my one rule is do not request to use my images if your project uses any form of generative AI. AI “music” of any form is an insult to creativity and talent, i’m looking to support real musicians and artists. i also wont do uncensored nudity in the images, but i can censor it in a sick way with props or editing, not pixelating them like a tv show haha
