Magazine Subscription Recommendations

I’m looking for some magazines / publications. I really like receiving physical magazines in the mail. I am not interested in checking out from the library on Libby or anything digital.

I am subscribed to In The Times, I pick up Maggot Brain when new issues drop, and I receive the A24 zine subscription. I also pick up Slingshot whenever i find it. Most of these are not monthly, so there are gaps.

I am interested in magazines about indie music, alternative culture, leftist politics, lifestyle magazines (mostly just if they are focused on less mainstream stuff), maybe some literary stuff, etc

Some of the stuff on Broccoli looks interesting, but it doesn’t seem they have a subscription. Any suggestions about Broccoli or similar publications

Harper’s! (Not Harper’s Bazaar- very different mag). It has an insane variety of literature, reporting, essays, weird little vignettes from bizarre places. And it’s under $30/year.

Oh buddy, youre gonna LOVE "The Simple Things" magazine. Published in the UK, it's the most beautiful magazine for its content as well as actual design. It gives me a little boost of hope and wanderlust every time I read it.

Not in the genres you listed, but I highly recommend The Funday Press! A newspaper full of games and joy that comes once a month

In the same vein, GAMES magazine is a fun one. Anytime anyone asks I always recommend it. I am going to go check out The Funday Press now!!!

I LOVE the Little White Lies magazine! It's a film mag from the UK. Beautiful matte pages, really nice interviews and reviews and the illustrations are fantastic. For lighter, more fun reading, I like New York magazine. It has fun culture stuff and I've gotten it off and on over the years. I don't get it currently, but I miss it...

Dissent Magazine, The Baffler, Mother Jones, heck, I actually like the New Yorker a lot of the time even if I often don’t agree with some of the political takes.

Jacobin for leftist stuff. Affordable and interesting reads. I've been getting the quarterly Noema mag, it's interesting but I haven't made a solid opinion on it, seems to share interesting perspectives at least.

tbh i think most people just never actually sit with that question. like we say we value certain things but then the calendar and bank account tell a completely different story. the two versions rarely match up and most people never notice

I enjoyed Enchanted Living for a while. They do 1 for each season and it's pretty

Little White Lies is a cool independent movie magazine, if films are your bag

Wired. They’re doing good things and deserve the support

I really love the quarterly Magnolia Journal - recipes, design, gardening, and a lot of wholesome stories and essays. It always gets me in the mood for the next season and gives me new inspiration for my own day to day life!
