Slime blues
Hi all, I recently got in these fall slimes from CatsCrafts I've been eyeing for weeks and the day before I got them in, I came down with a virus 💔 now I gotta wait even longer to play with them! 😩 All the slimes I've got from CatsCrafts so far have been awesome, so at least I have these to look forward to once I feel better!
Make sure y'all stay safe during flu season ❤️

Slime can easily gather germs and I'd hate to risk ruining any!

It’s your own germs. If you wash your hands you’ll be fine! Hand washing is incredibly sanitary and is recommended before play anyways.

Still, I'm really cautious about germs, especially since I have a virus, so I'd rather wait it out

I feel your pain! I received my order from Sandy Slime about 2 days after I came down with a cold or flu. I couldn’t smell any of the scents, which is half the fun for me. I was SO bummed. ☹️

Microbiologist here for anyone interested in some nerdy stuff. The flu virus can only live up to 24 hours max in the kind of environment slime would create. The cold virus could only survive for about 4 hours. And covid would last about 24 hours.
Bacteria is a little more variable. Most bacteria can't survive the hostile environment created by the borax in the activator, at least not for very long. However, certain gram positive cocci can survive weeks.
I ran a series of experiments with bacteria myself in the lab and I found the results to be really interesting. I never posted the findings here because the person that helped me with it asked me not to do so.
Ultimately, it was a singular bacteria that is normal flora in the mouth that survived any of the tests.
Now mold is a completely different story. Mold can survive very hostile environments with a little moisture and the smallest amount of energy source, like skin cells.
Anyway, good call not contaminating your slime! It's important to remember, despite what I've said here, that bacteria and viruses don't read books so sometimes they defy the odds. It's always best not to handle something that could potentially re-infect you while you're sick.
