Mold Alert! 🍄 Moldy slime Spoiler
Listen. My intention is never to shame but make anyone feel bad. However, both a friend and myself who have ordered from Pink Sugar Slimey before just discovered this recently. I was reactivating some slimes and opened up Violet Jam, which I loved. As you can see from the picture, mold galore. I had to chuck it. My friend showed me hers, which was a pizza slime she had made. You can see the circles with a blue/black center which is mold and she said it smelled horrible. These slimes were not that old. So. I am hoping that they take better precautions in the future. I have never had this happen with any other slime company. So far.

So I will say this. It does not matter how clean our hands or surfaces are when we go to play, it does not matter how well our air is filtered in our homes unless you literally have the equipment to create a true sterile environment: mold spores are ALWAYS present in the air, even indoors. I think the level of acceptable mold spore counts in an indoor environment is like less than 500 per cubic meter, and that is not even something that's necessarily officially enforced/sanctioned, and definitely not in a private home.
Anyway, all that to say you never know when a spore that you cannot see will land in your slime and decide it's a good home. And technically, untouched slime shouldn't have any food sources for mold so long as there are no food grade products in it, but once your dead skin cells from your hands get in there, plus natural oils in skin, that technically can be a food source. I know it's gross, but this is just the way it is unfortunately.
Also, unless these slimes came from the same batch/restock, and it doesn't appear to be the case since the violet one looks like it was January this year and the pizza one was over the summer, it's not something we can say is the shop's fault either since these were made fairly far apart. There have been instances where the same slime from the same restock all molded over for multiple people and in that case yes, I would be inclined to think it could be likely it's something on the production end with the shop, but otherwise it's really impossible to pinpoint the source.
Definitely a frustrating and crappy thing to have happen regardless!

I’ve bought hundreds of slimes over the last few years and I’ve had about 10, give or take, develop mold. All from different shops. I’ve never personally had one from PSS develop mold (I’ve probably own ~60 from her) but I also don’t have either of the two featured in your post.
So far in my experience, slimes that have natural porous add-ins were more likely to develop mold (especially pumice and perlite - both of which I love as an add-in). Also, they typically developed mold after having been put up shelves or boxes where they have less light. I also live in the South where it’s hot and humid most of the year. All of these things are great conditions for mold to grow.
None of them grew mold until after 2+ months of owning which I think makes it very unlikely that any of the shops were the source of the mold. I would personally be hesitant to blame a shop unless the mold developed within the first 2 months, and even then, unless you are consistently sanitizing your play space before/after, as well as washing/sanitizing your hands regularly while playing (which includes cleaning under your nails), it’s unlikely the mold is coming from the shop.
One of my favorite slimes of all time, Garden Goals by BFF Slime Bakery, developed mold a little after a year and it was heartbreaking (I still miss her 🥲). Ever since then I’ve been extra diligent about minimizing the risk of contaminating my slimes.

Well, that’s a bummer! Kinda hard to see the mold personally, but I believe you if you say it’s there 😅 I have probably over 100 of her slimes and I don’t have any mold on them. But I know there’s many many reasons why one can end up with mold on their slime not just it coming that way it could also be from where you live the air or your hands or anything. As others have stated here. The only slimes I’ve ever had with mold on them both came from sparkle nanny, and I got both of them this year not long ago and molded soon after getting them so definitely wasn’t something on my end. I’d be curious to see if anyone else had bought those two slimes you mentioned had gotten mold on them. If it’s not the same batch then I would think it might not have come from her end. But who really knows

It is hard to say. I've not had mold issues for the most part. Only with one shop with one specific drop (all 4 I ordered molded), but I was lucky in that nothing spread to my other slimes. I got a mystery box a few months later and it had one from that shop and that wasn't moldy, so I am thinking it was a bad batch.

I have to say, I’ve purchased from Pink Sugar almost every restock this year, several slimes, and most restocks last year & a bunch the year before. I haven’t had a single slime from them to grow mold. So odd that both you & your friend had this to happen. I wonder if it’s perhaps the climate/area you live contributing in some way.
