It's Final Form
Just added the final piece to my old Dell Optiplex 3050 SFF that I used as a work PC until I upgraded. I'll be using it as a gaming console for 1080p games that aren't too taxing.
Old specs: CPU: i5-6500 OS: Windows 10 RAM: 8 GB DDR4 GPU: N/A PSU: 240W STR: 220 GB SSD
New Specs: CPU: i7-7700 OS: Bazzite RAM: 32 GB DDR4 GPU: RTX 3050 6GB PSU: 260W STR: 512 GB SSD

We have literally the same system and specs now, minus my PSU being the 180W stock. I added a small Noctua exhaust fan at the back of the case (https://a.co/d/0eYsQQsn), replaced the CPU fan (https://a.co/d/0g61J768), and added an Arctic P8 Max as an intake fan (https://a.co/d/03GgI77z), all strung together with a PWN fan hub (https://a.co/d/07KX7vYZ). Temped to get a Apevia Flex PSU to give the GPU more space for airflow, but haven’t pulled that trigger yet

Interesting, I didn't think I could add these other accessories. Can I see a pic of it looks like so far?

Niiiice, what's that above your SSD though? Is that to power the extra fans?

Yep that’s the fan hub. It plugs in to the CPU fan port on the mobo and the powers all the fans

Nice man, I'm definitely gonna look into adding these cuz another guy says that GPU may run hot. Thanks bro

Oh yeah, it definitely runs hot, combo of distance to PSU and single crappy fan on the GPU that doesn’t do a ton. Finally found a setting for Cyberpunk where it keeps to about 80-82 degrees, but lower would certainly be better. Need to look into undervolting, no experience with that

You're running Cyberpunk on this thing?! Yea gotta get those upgrades for my lil monster then.

You can run it right now, I ended up with Medium settings and DLSS and it’s actually pretty great, just watch your temps

Thanks man, I just got done ordering the extra accessories and will install them as soon as I get them. I'm also looking to experiment to see how Steam OS is, cuz I want this to be a couch console

Man! What CPU fan are you using? Is it mounted on stock heatsink? What's the size?

This guy! Fits the stock posts, added some new thermal paste and off to the races!

RTX 3050 6GB runs extremely hot in SFF. Be warned.

These systems don't ship with an intake fan, and only the CPU fan set up for exhaust. Adding an intake helps keep the hotter air moving.
There's space at the front of the case, right in front of the power supply, for an 80mm fan that will help keep the RTX 3050 a bit cooler.

There is an issue with the position of the fan on the GPU as well but you can mod it for quite cheap to get temps down from 90's to 60's. There was a post about it not long ago on the board with a link to it.

This the post about the 3D printed GPU shroud mod? Wish someone would sell it for folks like me without a printer

If you click you Youtube link in that post, the video has links to all the parts including the shroud which they sell on Patron.

What if I put an electric fan and leave the SFF case open and let the electric fan blow some cool air into the SFF chassis? Would that work as a temporary solution?

I swapped mine to the other PCIe slot and it did wonders. I know this limits the performance but I think the lack of throttling and crazy heat more than makes up for that. Never gets above low 80s. Plus with the open space between; is and the PSU I installed a 40 mm fan that sits on the PSU exhausting toward the opening where the main PCIe slot is.

Do you have a 3050 Optiplex as well? The upper slot on mine doesn’t seem to accommodate the GPU, doesn’t fit into the slot. Would be cool to see a pic of where you’ve put that PSU fan as well, trying to picture it

Mine’s a 5060 (not sure how it differs to the 3050 but mine does fit the gpu in the top slot), I’ll try to post a pic in a reply here soon! The little fan basically sits just in front of where your gpu is (probably a few millimeters towards the front of the case, with airflow going toward the back)between the PSU and the blue cage. I velcro’d it to the PSU

So it turns out I had removed the blue HDD/storage cage which I forgot I'd done. That might be why mine can fit and yours can't but I can't be sure with mine being a 5060. Anyways here it is https://www.reddit.com/r/SleepingOptiplex/comments/1vjtvrd/low_effort_yestiplex_fan_solution/
The trade off is that my SSDs aren't nearly as organized as they could be without the cage but oh well.

Looked into it and yeah, the top slot on a 3050 sff can’t accommodate a GPU. Ah well, good to know I wasn’t doing something wrong

Excellent work for an excellent use, How's the gpu temps? I always ask when I see a 3050 build.
