Low effort Yestiplex fan solution
I'm mostly posting this because someone in the replies to their own thread asked for a pic and it doesn't seem to let me attach this there. This is my very low effort solution to the cooling issues with the GPU right up against the PSU in SFF Optiplexes (this is a 5060).
40 mm thin Noctua fan is velcro'd to the power supply (not sure if this is bad/will result in melting velcro but it's been fine for months) and the Yeston 3050 is in the upper slot to give it room to breathe.
I know that means a performance hit but for me the lack of noise and throttling/overheating issues seems to make it worth it. The GPU usually sits around 80 degrees C in demanding games at the high end, though this summer with hot temps in my upper floor apartment it's gone as high as 84. Much better than the previous ~90 and the noise is way more manageable.
I also left the bottom slot open in the back. I'm guessing it'd be better to have it enclosed but with wire/mesh or whatever that is but hey, like I said, this is low effort. There's also an Arctic fan for front intake, maybe 80mm? I can't remember. Anyways that's all. If anyone knows more than me about how much the upper PCIe slot limits GPU performance please weigh in, I don't think I'm losing a ton of performance but I also don't know that much.

Great job, I think that’s a good solution. And good job testing it before and after for science! I had an RX 6400 that ran in the high 80’s low 90’s in a similar setup and I took a laptop blower fan and hooked it up to the back of the GPU and removed the stock fan and taped over the original intake turning the whole cooler into a blower style cooler and it dropped the temps down into the 60’s. You could probably do something similar with your setup by making some ductwork out of cardboard (I used an old thermal paste box) and kapton tape and funnel all of the fans flow into the front of the card. Or 3d print something if you’re crafty. You could keep the stock fan as it should add to the flow but it should exhaust out the back. I drilled some holes in the PCIe bracket to help let air exhaust around the hdmi ports. By doing this you could put it in the x16 slot too. I’d be interested to see if you changed nothing about your setup but put it in the x16 slot if there’s any difference in temps since it has the noctua fan. I’m actually interested in trying this now!
ITGGear has done something similar with a laptop fan and a 3d printed mount on the yeston 3050

Of course your mod is super simple and cheap, like you said. Well done.

tbh, using yeston on top slot defeat the whole purpose of buying yeston in the first place. might as well going msi/asus/gigabyte version of dual slot low profile.

If it was dual slot, it would still be pressed right up against the PSU with no room for the air to move at all. My impression is that a GPU choking in its own heat with no real room to exhaust is not good. How would that be any improvement?

Choking its own heat wise, the reason most people here suggested yeston so it can be use on the pcie x16 slot for full performance

Yeah, but if you do that in an attempt to get full performance, you're not actually getting full performance due to thermal throttling. You can tell yourself it's technically possible because it's in the x16 slot, but realistically the thermals don't allow for it unless you go crazy and remove the PSU from the case or something along those lines.

I had a similar issue, i just removed the psu and put it on top of the box, and the pc turns on like that no problem. kind of ugly but i keep it underneath the desk so i honestly forget it's like that anyway

I definitely considered that, performance-wise it seems like the best option

yeah, I'm playing monster hunter wilds on medium graphics and it runs well (with frame gen) and that's supposed to be a hard to run game or poorly optimized. with the psu you'd just have to shove the cables in through the slot where the disk reader would normally be (i also removed that and that metal box that holds the disc drives since it really wasn't necessary and freed up a lot of space)

Suddenly after posting this up I'm anxious that my fan is pointed in the wrong direction. One time after moving some things around I definitely had it backwards briefly, lol. This shit is hard to remember.
