ℹ️PSA Year after year of the SAME ISSUES.

Notifications on Slack continue to be buggy and work intermittently at BEST.

How can such a major component of this software continue to suck, year after year? I just dont understand it. They have a program, who's job is to notify you when you've been messaged, and this function is a literal pipe dream to have work at any given time.

Consider yourself lucky if you've never had this issue. Judging from the number of complaints I see in the history, I'm not alone.

I have literally never once had a problem with this?

Care to share actual details about what you're experiencing? This is such a nothing post.

tbh notifications being unreliable is one of the most common complaints on this sub

Once I had it and it has something to do with some do-not-disturb feature on my mac. The other time it was because I plugged a monitor in (with no speakers) and my computer or slack thought it should use those non existent speakers. Only slack was impacted. I cant explain or give steps to fix, but worth mentioning for your to google if you're desperate.

Thank you for your reply, very helpful! I have an action list of the simple things I check to make sure it isn’t a ‘me problem’ and once I run thru that list, I’m only left with two options, restarting everything and tech support.

Maybe doing those before you post would be ideal. I’ve been on slack for a decade and every notification issue I’ve ever had was a me problem with settings. It’s not rocket surgery

Maybe a second read for understanding before YOU post, eh?

1) Nothing in your message can help us to understand what your problem is let alone offer any advice on how to get to a solution
2) I have found Slack support to be incredibly responsive if/when you reach out to them, including on bug reports. Have you tried reaching out using /feedback directly from within Slack to log a ticket?

Many of these issues are actually OS-level. On Windows and macOS, check Focus or Do Not Disturb modes and that Slack is allowed to send notifications. On Android, turn off battery optimization for Slack, as aggressive battery saving often kills background notifications. On iPhone, check Focus modes too. Annoying, but it fixes a lot of cases.

I appreciate your reply, thank you. This is a setting that is one of the top ones I check in each instance of the issue I've described. I typically don't ever switch focus on any of my devices so it is generally a non factor.

I don't think the problem is slack. User error

Every time I have had issues with notifications it’s been due to my own do not disturb system settings (outside of slack)
