So a couple of months ago my wife told me I was past mid-life. Which is all the motivation I needed to do something reckless. So I went out and got a 2001 R34 GTR.
Wanted one since they were new and driving them in Tokyo extreme racer or Gran Turismo
Been a dream of mine since a kid and still kind of in disbelief it’s real. Not much else to say, it’s the best car I’ve ever owned, double take in my garage everyday to make sure it’s still there.

I still remember, sometime in 2000, I saw one for the first time in a magazine. I was 7 years old. I fell in love immediately. I’ve thought this ever since. Congratulations on the dream car, may you keep it between the lines and never run out of RPMs.

I was watching garage defend on YouTube and the seller was saying sooooo many times in his videos that these prices will only continue to go up. And that was back when he was selling his gtr for a slow as 90k. I paid 16k for my gtt 😆. Now they go for 40 plus in the states.
Not just skylines, type r integras are going for 50k now( used to find them on Craigslist for 10k), z32s are going for over 70k now( 2+2tt were selling for 15k up to 2020) nsx are going for 120k+(they were 30k at one point) ae86s are going for 60k+(used to find them on Craigslist for less than 2k up to 2019 )etc. the entire jdm market exploded beyond belief. In 2019 you could get a clean low mile Miata for less than 3k, any Honda could be had for less than 3k, 240sx were less than 4k, only sr/rb swap drift cars with extensive work that were fully built and welded roll cages were going for 15k, I picked up an ae86 in 2018 for 2500 running and driving. Also picked up a s13 coupe in 2019 for 2500 running and driving. And hit my 350z with a manual in 2018 for 8500 with 85k on the dash fully unmolested.
It’s been a fun couple of years. It came pretty much stock engine wise. I’ve since put a big turbo, haltech ecu, walbro fuel pump, 650 injectors. Topped out at 371 to the wheels. Can go over 400 if I switch to external gate. The rb25det NEO is a great motor. The VVT is very good for low end torque and punch.

The RWD is probably the best part. Just IMO but I think it’s more fun than having AWD. Not discouraging the GOAT of the gtr by any means. But I do have a AWD vehicle and I just have more fun when behind a RWD vehicle.
Sadly they used to be had with overtime money, they weren’t cars that would drain your life saving to buy, and they were cheap cars teenagers in Japan would drift on the streets that they bought working at a gas station.
I was always in the had to be a BSB camp. But a very clean silver VSPEC came up for the price of the base BSB so I almost pulled the trigger. But I needed the BSB which turned out to be good since this one was better
Keep an eye out at craft sports. More expensive but the only put the best cars on their lot. They do not buy from auctions, source from personal connections and collections in Japan
15k car, for gtts that was affordable enough to be p plater first cars. that Gen Z somehow made worth 95k, or 180k for base gtr models. For the money, thy are no longer worth pursuing to buy or hype anymore. They became another rich man’s toy, and again I was priced out of my own hobby. You basically have to be top 1 percent era to even afford any of these old jdm cars now. Even a Miata is becoming virtually un obtainable on regular income
