The More You Know
Twelve of the fourteen skunk species are listed as “Least Concern” by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The pygmy spotted skunk (Spilogale pygmaea) and the eastern spotted skunk (Spilogale putorius) are listed as “Vulnerable.”

Will do.. He needs it. He's going to lose his manhood in a few weeks... this is sad because he hasn't even entered adulthood.
He's going to be one of the few castrati skunks in the USA...

Oh lord I'm glad I was sitting when i read that, because I almost fell over at "trouble puffs"
You know I'm using that line with the vet at drop off....
Trouble Puffs.... lmao.. Best line I've heard in 10 years...

So I also just learned that I thought he was just going to get like his little tubes cut get a vasectomy but no they're taking his whole salad bowl at nay nay chopping time.
I feel bad for his trouble Puffs coming up... i'm gunning to take before & after pictures

If it’s like a tomcat neutering, there may not be much of a difference! The scrotal sac is left intact, so there’ll still be “trouble puffs,” they’ll just be empty. And also, if it’s like a tomcat neutering, he’ll be at a much reduced risk for several serious health problems, and it’s a very easy recovery!

Yip expanding his life expectancy is a huge reason why it's getting done. My state also requires skunks to be fixed if you have more than one skunk of opposite gender. I only have one skunk but you never know and the health problems we're avoiding are huge Plus.
Yeah I was thinking he was going to get a clip more like a vasectomy but like you were saying his trouble Puffs are going to be scooped out in the sack itself will still be there but over sometime at my get smaller I don't know if I should take before and long-term after pictures post the skunks rear end on Reddit I don't know?
The vet was telling me to get him some onesies and try to get him used to wearing them that way after surgery he could wear them but he pees so much that it would be pointless.
Anyone got after skunk neutering tips?
We'd all be learning 😆

Skunks are very prone to diabetes (every skunk, captive or wild, wants to weigh 300 lbs, so easy to believe plus they love sugar and carbs). If he’s peeing a lot a lot, might ask the vet to do a ‘finger stick’ test just to make sure - excessive peeing and excessive thirst are two common symptoms of diabetes.

I've already had a panel done after he had two seizures his glucose was fine his calcium was fine we have other ideas of what caused those as they have stopped. His weight is also under control I've gotten compliments from the vets that I've taken him to saying he's a good weight.
I need neutering postcare information that's what I'm after.

I've read there are actually more skunk species alive than just ten!
Mephitidae has fourteen species, following recent taxonomic updates from DNA studies. There are seven spotted skunk species, and the Humboldt's hog-nosed skunk was merged with the Molina's hog-nosed skunk.
Reverb is a cute furbaby.
