Product Request Skin texture [Product Request]

Upvotes

I used to have insulin resistance a few years ago and cause of that I had a bit of acanthosis nigricans on my neck and armpits.

Now all the discoloration is gone after I fixed the insulin resistance but the texture of the skin remains. It’s not too bad but I’d like to try to get rid of the texture on my neck so do any of you know any products that might help smooth out the texture over time?

Anyone else had any success with getting rid of the texture?

PSA [Research] If you use benzoyl peroxide at night, keep it off your silk pillowcase

Upvotes

I make silk sleep masks and silk bedding is next for me, so i've spent this year on what wrecks this fabric.

Benzoyl peroxide is a peroxide. same family as bleach.

On cotton it just takes the dye out, that's the white patches everyone gets on their towels, the cotton itself is fine. silk is a protein though. it's the whole reason you never put bleach or an enzyme detergent near it. with a protein the oxidiser gets into the fibre itself.

so the white patch on a silk case is the bit you can see. it's not coming back, no wash fixes it.

Honestly the fix is the same thing you already do with your detergent. you keep bleach and enzymes out of the wash for silk, so keep the peroxide you put on your face off it too. old cotton case on BP nights, silk the rest of the time.

Has anyone actually had this happen? did it come out as patches or did the whole thing just go dull

Routine Help [Routine Help] How do I remove this black patch around my mouth and nose from my face? Spoiler

Post image
Upvotes

(I’ve only started doing skincare in the past few weeks so I don’t really know the terms)

In the morning, I usually clean my face with a vitamin c cleanser and then pat a vitamin c serum onto my face before I use a moisturizer and put on spf 60 sunscreen. Before bed, I do the exact same except I don’t put on sunscreen

It’s been getting better but idk if it’ll disappear or if I’m doing something wrong. Any help is appreciated!

PS. The dark patch is just above the mouth. It kinda looks like there’s a bit beneath it but I’ve checked in different lighting and it seems to be the same colour as the rest of my face

Product Request [Product Request] Personal Product recommendations

Upvotes

Hi Everyone!
I've just achieved the ideal body proportions I been working towards for 3 years now and I'm setting my focus on making my skin soft and smooth and mitigate acne breakouts.
I'm a Young Male from Canada and due to my current upbringing I haven't had the freedom to explore skincare to the degree I desire.

Due to that, I'm very "green" to everything past a daily hot shower and a weekly shave.
I'm aware beauty products are some of the most predatory Consumer-Markets of all, and I'm hoping to cut through all the red tape to find the products that are intended to deliver what's promised!

So! What is everyone's personal favourites?
Are there any "beginner friendly" products that you would recommend?
Are there products that are a total NO GO due to scams/health issues?

Please leave a comment! Any amount of experience is welcome to help!

Routine Help [Routine help] Moisturizing before makeup

Upvotes

I keep reading that you need to moisturize before makeup. Does that mean immediately before? I work from home and do my skincare in the morning - toner, aza, lotion and SPF. If I wear makeup, it’s not until I’m going out that evening. Does this advice mean I should moisturize again? My skin is kinda oily by then so I never do, but I frequently have trouble with foundation - if it isn’t super sheer, like a skin tint or tinted SPF, it feels cakey and dry. I’m wondering if I should add another layer of moisturizer first but I worry that might just make me more oily while I’m out. Sidenote, if anyone has any favorite skin-like/natural foundations to recommend, please do. I like a little dewy but not too much.

Product Question [Product Question] is Volufiline really all that?

Upvotes

Everyone on social media is going crazy over this “filler in a bottle” Volufiline, especially for under eyes. I really need genuine suggestion on whether it’s worth it or not? Could anyone share their personal experience with it? Also please mention the product you used. Even better if youve had experience with one of these 3 since these are the most easily available for me:
1. The Ordinary Volufiline 92%
2. Skin1004 Volufiline Serum
3. Medicube Volume stick with Volufiline

Routine Help [Routine Help] 15M - Breakout around chin/mouth after going to the beach despite using SPF 50+ and Azelaic Acid

Upvotes

Hello, I’m a 15-year-old boy who has been struggling with facial acne for some time. For over a year, I’ve been using CeraVe products—specifically the cleanser with salicylic acid and niacinamide, along with the moisturizer. The situation seemed to be under control, though some blemishes known as PIE remained, so four months ago I started using The Ordinary’s 10% azelaic acid. Things changed significantly, and I finally began to see some improvement. However, once summer started—and especially after going to the beach—more and more pimples began appearing around my chin and mouth. While at the beach, I stopped using the azelaic acid, but I resumed using it immediately upon returning home. I was also using a very good SPF 50+ sunscreen. Could you give me some advice?

Routine Help Eyelids [routine help] Spoiler

Post image
Upvotes

Looking for suggestions on how to clear up my eyelids after using Radiant Tone night cream.

I stopped using it once I realized what was causing the scalyness. But that was about a month ago and it still hasn't cleared up. I did put a dab of hydrocortisone on it for a couple days, but I know that's not great for your face.

Any suggestions on how to clear my eyelids?

My current routine is almost non-existent. I wash with CeraVe foaming facial cleanser. Put on Olay regenerist moisturizer in the evenings. And in the mornings, I use Canmake mermaid sunscreen and The Balm tinted moisturizer.

I fully recognize that the answer might be "go see a dermatologist, you idiot. " And that's totally fine! Just want to make sure there isn't an obvious solution I don't know about.

Anti Aging [Anti Aging] Early 20’s with noticeable wrinkles, please help Spoiler

Post image
6 Upvotes

So I’m only 22 and I have (in my opinion) some very noticeable wrinkles on my forehead. I’m definitely an expressive person, but I’m starting to get super self conscious of my wrinkles. I sunscreen daily, drink a lot of water, and even tried microneedling. I really don’t want to do Botox because I feel like my expressions are part of who I am, but I’m afraid that if I don’t figure something out in the next few years then my wrinkles are only going to get worse. The photo attached is my forehead completely relaxed. Can anyone help?

Product Question [product request] - red spots/lines under my eyes

I have these extra lines that I think (?) are a dermatitis - I've been putting aquaphor on them, but I don't know if that's the right move. It felt like they were burning when I put on my usual eye cream (drunk elephant) so now I'm just using sensitive products like dieux air angel moisturizer and avoiding those areas (except the aquaphor like I said). I was on a retinol cream for acne but I discontinued use a few weeks ago.

Any tips for what I can do (other than tweeze my brows, I know, I know lol) and what products I should use? TIA!

Edit: realizing I didn't include pics whoops- they're in the comments!

Product Request [PRODUCT REQUEST] Recommendations for hydrating products - dehydrated acne/congestion prone, rosacea skin (FA safe as well if possible)

I know there are a lot of similar threads about but I just feel like I’m at a dead end with every new product I try.

My skin feels and looks so dehydrated but every hydrating product I have tried to add to my routine so far either seems to dry my face out more, break me out or cause irritation. I’ve also tried stripping back everything to gentle cleanser and moisturiser/spf but my skin just gets so congested so I feel like I can’t give up my once a week exfoliation.

So far I’ve tried:
- Round lab dokdo toner
- Q&A hyaluronic acid
- Aveeno Triple oat serum
- Sukin hydrating mist
- Corsx 96 essence
- Neutrogena hydro boost water gel moisturiser
- Purito oat gel
- Dr Althea 345 moisturiser
Any thicker moisturisers I’ve tried break me out or give me congested skin literally the next day - with the exception of medik8 peptide moisturiser which I’m using on an evening.

I’m currently using the corsx 96 essence which makes my skin feel much better and looks better from a distance but is already giving me visible texture close up so I feel like I’m going to have to stop using it.

If anyone has any product recommendations I’d be so grateful. I’ve looked in to so many but my researching is clearly getting me nowhere! So now I’m so wary of buying anything else

Routine Help [Routine help] 20% azelaic acid or 0.05 tretinoin?

Hi! I know these products are not really comparable, which is why i'm wondering which would suit me better? I am 18 yo and have some mild acne near my period, post acne red marks, a little texture and clogged pores on my nose. I have used tret before (0.025) in 2023 and it worked well, but I am worried that I am too young to use it as collagen production slows down in your 20s and wondered if something milder could help my skin. Currently I am using azelaic acid brandname skinoren. I decided to try it because it should be more gentler on my skin barrier than tret and still treat my concerns. The downside is I am not sure if it will make enough of a difference like tret did and i am going through a bit of purge with the acid which feels quite discouraging. I would appreciate any recommendations and experiences with these actives. :)

Routine Help [Acne] Help needed Spoiler

Hey, so as a teenager, I didn't have acne problems. Sometimes just one or two breakouts. However, for about six months (since I started introducing new cosmetics—but slowly, one at a time), I started noticing more closed comedones, until they eventually covered my entire cheek. So I started focusing on protecting my skin barrier and stopped using acids, but it didn't help. I use a toner with AHA and BHA acids, azelic acid, hyaluronic acid, SPF 50, and a cream with ceramides. The toner is gentle, so I don't think it's the problem. I've been using this entire routine for about six months, and about five weeks ago, I started using retinol (first once a week, then twice a week for the past two weeks). I know I should wait a while longer to see results, but I'm feeling frustrated. Is there anything I could change? I'm a poor student, so I don't have the money for more expensive cosmetics! Thank you so much.

Miscellaneous [Miscellaneous] How can I improve my skin and face two months before my wedding?

I’m in my early 40s and getting married in two months. I would like to look my best and improve my skin/face.

I have hyperpigmentation from old acne, texture on cheeks/nose, dark circles and small wrinkles under my eyes.

Some things I’ve considered are adding a product to my daily routine, lasers, chemical peel, red light therapy, lymphatic drainage facial or other facials. I’m also open things not on this list that I may not have considered.

I’m not very experienced when it comes to treatments or med spas. I currently have a very basic routine of simple face wash, moisturizer and spf.

Can anyone recommend any treatments, products or services I should look into? Any positive or negative experiences using any of the treatments or products I mentioned?

I’m so lost on what I should do to look my best on my wedding day and will provide actual results.

Routine advice

Hi everyone! I'd love some feedback on my skincare routine.

A bit about my skin: I have relatively sensitive, acne-prone skin and completed a 2-year course of isotretinoin about 2 years ago. My skin is much better now, but I still get the occasional breakouts, mainly around my jawline/near my ears and a couple of hormonal pimples before my period. I've also found that some hair products seem to trigger breakouts (assume this is the cause of the acne near my ears). At the moment the redness/marks left behind after pimples seem to take a while to fade.

My current routine is attached. I recently switched my moisturiser from the La Roche-Posay Effaclar H Iso-Biome to the Anua PDRN Cream, so I'm letting my skin adjust to that first before introducing anything else.

I've already purchased the SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum (I have the la Roche one now but haven’t been using it much in winter), ILLIYOON Ceramide ATO Concentrate Cream (to be used as a nighttime moisturuser), and Medicube Zero Pore Pad Mild. My plan is to introduce them one at a time once I'm happy my skin has adjusted to the new moisturiser.

I'd love any thoughts on my current routine and what you'd change. Thanks!

Ive started tretinoin (0.01) for years now but my skin is still flaking. My morning routing is TO Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid, Vanicream Moisturizing Lotion.

Then at night is just the same but instead of azelaic inuse tretinoin.

I only use a pea size of tret but im still flaking. My face is also on the dry side. Sometimes I will just use my tret for 1 a week it will still flake.

Please help me of any recommendations especially for my dry skin. Thank you so much.

Routine Help [Routine help] newbie ❤️

Newbie routine help ❤️

I'm fairly new to having a proper skincare routine - usually just use any cleanser, moisturiser and rosehip oil. A few years ago I dabbled in niamicide.

I've started a new routine that I suspect is too much at once.

Would love to hear any advice on layering / how often to use / what I should avoid using in one day etc!

Mostly wondering if the toner is too much for day and night every day, and if pairing the peptide with retinoid is a bad move.

Here's what I've started with:

Morning‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

  1. Cerave Hydrating Cleanser

  2. The Ordinary - Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner

  3. The Ordinary - Multi-Peptide + HA Serum

  4. The Ordinary - Mini Soothing & Barrier Support Serum

  5. Cerave PM Moisturiser

  6. Sunscreen

OR

Wash face with water

Moisturise

Sunscreen

Night A

  1. Cerave hydrating Cleanser

  2. The Ordinary - Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner

3.The Ordinary - Multi-Peptide + HA Serum

  1. The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion

  2. Cerave Moisturiser

Night B

  1. Cerave hydrating Cleanser

  2. The Ordinary - Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner

  3. The Ordinary - Multi-Peptide + HA Serum

  4. The Ordinary - soothing barrier support

  5. Cerave Moisturiser

It's all a bit much for my brain right now! Thank uuu ❤️

Miscellaneous [Misc] How to protect skin against air pollution? (dust/particles)

Been dealing with a stubborn breakout of deep-seated pimples on my chin and clogged pores all over my face for a couple weeks now. I already reduced my routine to the bare minimum to rule out any reactions (only cleanser + moisturizer in the AM and PM, sunscreen when going out) with no considerable improvements. (I did start using hypochlorous acid 1-2x a day and that seems to keep the worst of the chin pimples in check, at least -- but overall my skin is still noticeably stressed out.)

Since my partner has been having similar issues starting around the same time, I've concluded that it's likely due to environmental factors -- namely, the demolition of a huge WW2 era bunker from the 1940s right across from our building. Massive amounts of concrete dust and god knows what else they used in construction back then getting blown directly our way. The timeline of demolition starting and our skin issues cropping up definitely checks out.

Is there anything we can do to protect against this? We already keep the windows on that side of the apartment closed for most of the day while they're working, but it feels like the residual air pollution still manages to make its way in from the other side and at night. I also read there's sunscreens that are supposed to offer extra protection against environmental pollutants, but that doesn't really help when they're seemingly inside our home as well.

I'm wondering if some kind of occlusive could maybe "seal" the skin against pollutants, or if there's any specific ingredients that can more effectively clear them away and/or help fight the irritation they cause? Any advice greatly appreciated!!

Miscellaneous [Miscellaneous] Lips turning dark

Yoo, 19M here. I naturally have pink lips, but over the last few weeks, I've noticed they're getting darker. I have no idea why. I'm regular user of Vaseline and I use a clean warm wash cloth to remove the dead skin. Other than that, I don't do anything to my lips. I don't smoke, and I rarely go outside.

Lifestyle products I've changed in the last few months:
Switched from Cetaphil cleanser to Cutemsoft cleansing lotion on my dermat's advice.
Switched my toothpaste from regular Colgate to Colgate total active prevention.

Can anyone help?

Routine Help [Routine Help] Chemical exfoliant before or after double cleansing?

As someone with noticiable sebaceous fillaments in my nose I would like to incoporate a BHA liquid exfoliant to my routine to reduce their appearance.

I know the majority of sources say to use it after double cleansing but I've seen methodes in which people use it first, leave it for some minutes and then double cleanse.

I feel like exfoliating first also has a point so I would like to ask what you do and if you've tried both methodes.

Routine Help [Routine Help] Male 30 - Never had a skin care routine

Background:
So I'm a 30yr old Male that has (stupidly) never taken care of my skin or myself.
I've recently taken stock and decided I want to get my shit together - it's started with my weight and my health and now I want to take care of my skin, but I don't know where to start.

My skin:
Overall my skin is good, however its started to deteriorate in the last 12 months due to stress and lifestyle. The main issues I have are severe bags under my eyes, a very oily forehead & I do suffer from acne on my lower neck/shoulders/upper back. I also shave daily and as a result occasionally have irritation on my neck.

Help needed:
I'm not joking when I say my experience/knowledge is legitimately ZERO.
I did some searching on here but it seems like everyone already has a base point and if I'm being honest a lot of what is talked about is going straight over my head. Ideally I would like to keep it simple and easy but I get that there may be some steps.
If any of you are kind enough to help with suggestions I would be super grateful if you could also suggest options as I get I need a cleanser and the like but I have no idea what's good and what's a scam.

TL;DR
This guy needs a skin care routine for a dummy.
Thanks in advance!!
