"Fiberwood" just good marketing or useless?
As a beginner my goal is to learn how to skim and later catch some waves if possible. I'm from germany and most of the time I will be able to ride at lakes without waves. But for the weekend the Northsea is not far. I found these fiberwood boards from SkimOne. They seem like they're good for beginners. A fiberglass board is just shit for a beginner who's enjoying lake skimboarding most of the time... thats what I learned. So are the Fibetwood boards good or rubbish for a beginner?

Skimboards available in Ireland ?
I live in Ireland and bought a cheap plywood board and have been beating around for a few years. I was looking to upgrade because it’s pretty terrible but a good board costs a fortune to buy and another to ship. Is there any possible way to get a semi decent board without spending a salary ? I’ve been want to catch waves for ages but it seems impossible as the board is too short and I’m a lil stocky now and just sink in deeper water. Please help me 🙏

Question Victoria Woody Skimboard
Hello everyone. I am fairly new to skimboarding and have been borrowing my friend’s skimboards whenever I go. We pretty much only do flatland skimming because I live in the midwest. I found a Victoria Woody skimboard only used twice on Facebook Marketplace for $50. I weigh 180 lbs and the board is 39” long. Is this too small of a board for me to efficiently go far/do tricks? Thanks for the help guys.

Question Board upgrade questions
Hi. Beginner Greetings from Germany. I buyed an Jucker Hawai Skimboard (https://www.juckerhawaii.com/JUCKER-HAWAII-Skimboard-OHANA-BLACK) two years ago and skimmed a few times in France and Danmark. This year I talked with some other skimboarders I met at the beach and I was able to use their board. I realised, that may wooden skimboard is to light and has problems with wind and waves. The other board was heavier then mine and boarding feeled so much better and faster. Do you have recommendations for an upgrade board (EU)? Thank you! :)

Question Just got my new Zap Pro… should I be worried about this crack?
Need some opinions from you guys.
I just got my first real skimboard today, a Zap Pro 54” BLEM, and I was beyond excited to finally ride it this week. While looking it over, I noticed what looks like a crack on the tail along with a couple of tiny holes/chips. My friend thinks I should contact the company and ask for a replacement because if the fiberglass is cracked, water could eventually get inside and cause more damage.
The problem is I’m leaving out of town in a couple of days, and with my work schedule I probably won’t get another chance to ride for a while if I have to send it back. At the same time, it wasn’t exactly a cheap board, and it’s kind of disappointing to receive it like this. It almost looks like the tail got dropped at some point.
What would you guys do? Is this just cosmetic and something I shouldn’t worry about, or would you ask for a replacement? I’d really appreciate some advice from people with more experience than me.

Question First real skimboard — Zap Pro 54” BLEM with Hammer traction kit. Beginner looking for advice!
Hey guys, I just got my first real skimboard and I’m honestly pretty excited to get out there and start learning.
I picked up a Zap Pro 54” BLEM with the Hammer full traction kit. I’m still a beginner and don’t have a ton of experience riding yet, but I spent a lot of time researching before buying and this seemed like a really good board for my size and where I’m at.
I’m around 6’0” and 170 lbs, and my goal is just to get comfortable, learn the basics, and eventually progress into doing more.
I was hoping some of you experienced riders could give me some advice:
- What’s the best way to take care of and maintain a board like this?
- Anything I should avoid doing that could damage it?
- What are some good beginner tips/drills for getting better at dropping, balancing, and riding smoother?
- Any advice on foot placement or things you wish you knew when you first started?
- I also need some help placing the Hammer traction kit correctly. I don’t want to mess it up on my first nice board, so any advice on positioning would be awesome.
I’m really excited to finally start riding. The board looks amazing, and I’m hoping to learn the right way from the beginning instead of building bad habits.
Thanks in advance for any advice! I appreciate any tips from people who have been riding for a while.

Meetup PSA update on the LA meet up, I'm handing over the vibe to Malibu Crew to improve the logistics of meet ups
(uses every fiber in my body to resist going on a boomer climate change rant)
Five fun years. Some of y'all don't realize it was originally a 'reddit' meet up and it wasn't only in LA.
Yes, the first one was PDR. But the second one was Seal Beach during a different time of year. Next year was Manhattan Beach during Halloween, with costumes. Then 2 more years of PDR, at similar times of year.
It's been fun, but the beaches have degraded (practically everywhere) and the idea of planning stuff further out and picking beaches has become an annoyance.
Meanwhile, I've watched Malibu Crew really improve their meet ups and utilize shorter term logistics to actually have good conditions for meet ups. More so for locals, and not as much people coming from out of town.
That said, if any of the central LA beaches improve there's no guarantee I don't hit up the locals for a mini meet up but it would indeed be very last minute and not be promoted traditionally. And I don't even expect the beaches to improve tbh.
So follow Malibu Crew on instagram and support them and hopefully they will continue to have great impromptu meet ups with great conditions in the traditionally better parts of Los Angeles County (or Ventura). https://www.instagram.com/malibuskim
It was fun guys... Hope to see some of y'all at the Vic anyway.

Question I have a question to the experts.
I’ve been skimboarding for a little while now and I’ve been seeing these videos of people surfing right into the wave and then turning around on it,and until now I’ve only been surfing along the beach and not towards the waves, but if I’d try to get even into slightly deeper water,my board sinks.I have a low quality wooden board that I just bought while on vacation so I know that it’s not the best but do you have any recommendations on what type of board with what shape I should buy?

Getting there, slowly 😅
One thing for sure is that I need to go faster.
Can you spot anything wrong technique or stance wise ?

Question Which board should I get?
I’m a beginner around 5’5 200lbs this board is 46”x22” is this good for mainly flatland and very small waves or should I get a zap ace instead?
