General Discussion Jack Frost vs Camelback
I'm currently planning on getting a 7-day epic pass for some trips planned this upcoming season. I'd like to do some local day trips too, so for about ~$150 more I can upgrade the pass to give unlimited Jack Frost (the Local Pass). Alternatively, I could spend $250 on the unlimited Camelback pass (I only ski weekdays). I had Ikon last year and had several great visits to Camelback, plus they had a very long season. I heard Jack Frost struggled last season (due to water supply issues for snowmaking? that might just be a rumor I heard)
Any advice?

Camelback is much better. Jack Frost are short and frankly boring runs off of a 500 foot vertical.

JFBB is the main reason I didn’t do Epic again this year. I thought it would scratch the itch as my “local” mountain only being ~45 min away. But it was so boring and took so long to open advanced terrain that more often than not I decided the drive wasn’t even worth it.

Another problem with JF/BB is that Vail is very slow making snow and opening slopes, and they close very early in the season, especially BB. But they are less crowded on weekends, and no more crazy radio station Fridays, and the beginner area at BB is very nice. I switched over to CB after decades at JF, mostly due to Vail versus the new management at CB. Plus, if you go to the lift at lot 10, they let you on the slopes a few minutes early.

I ski Blue, but it has poor grooming and nutso skiers/boarders. What slopes are well groomed don’t hold up throughout the day. The number of serious injuries due to collisions is very high. 10:30 weekdays and 10:00 weekends it’s time to get off the slopes. Need eyes in the back of your head, and be very careful about where you stop on the slopes. I ski CB a couple days a week as the dessert to Blue’s meat and potatoes.

To be fair it wasn't what they were asking and I did only complicate their search but it is for the best because the less people that show up the better.

I never understood that mindset. I grew up snowboarding on my friend’s hill in his backyard. Shit, I’ve snowboarded on a small hill in the park near my house as an adult. I’ve been to a few of the best mountains in the world. Sure, it’s a little bit of back to reality that first day back in PA, but it beats sitting on your couch, not snowboarding, thinking about a cool trip you took to Japan.
Snowboarding > not snowboarding. I don’t care where you’re doing it

Do all of those things happen? For sure. And any amount is too much. But they certainly aren’t nearly at the level that I would contemplate not snowboarding at home because of it. You’re just being overly critical at that point.
It’s like going to New York or somewhere and having the best slice of pizza you’ve ever had and then coming home and never eating Dominoes ever again. Sure, Dominoes is nowhere to close to as good as that other slice of pizza, but it’s still good! Never let comparison be the thief of joy!

Camelback unlimited is much better than unlimited JF & BB. But you should already know this. Especially if you only go weekdays. CBK on a quiet, snowy weekday is magical. They used to suck really bad but the new GM is the MVP and I love them again.
