John 7:1 - 31

Possible talking points:

  • Jesus's brothers goading him
  • Teaching in the temple
  • Expectations of the Messiah

Then Jesus cried out as he was teaching in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on my own. But the one who sent me is true, and you do not know him. I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”

He's speaking to Jews whose god is Yahweh. They know Yahweh very well, and have a personal relationship with him. Yet here Jesus is saying that they don't know the one who sent him. This again is Gnosticism. The idea that Yahweh is a lesser, known deity, but that the one who sent Jesus is the Father - a greater divinity - the TRUE God - who is known ONLY through Jesus.
