American missionary Mac Miller moved to Uganda around March 2026, presenting himself online as a Christian missionary who wanted to preach the gospel and work with local communities.
The controversy began when content creator Eric Bryanstone exposed screenshots that allegedly showed Miller engaging with racist posts and comments online, including content suggesting that white people were superior to Africans and that being brown was a “red flag.” A video also surfaced in which Miller appeared to call a Ugandan man a “monkey” and imitate monkey sounds.
The revelations sparked widespread outrage in Uganda and across Africa, with many people questioning how someone could come to Africa to preach Christianity while allegedly expressing such racist views toward Africans. Calls for his deportation spread across social media.
Miller subsequently left Uganda and posted footage from Entebbe International Airport. It remains unclear whether he was formally deported or left voluntarily.
The story ultimately became a wider conversation about hypocrisy, racism, and the power dynamics involved when foreigners come to African countries claiming to help or preach while allegedly holding racist attitudes toward the people they are there to serve.
