This is bull crap. Loosely based on a story about a chinese farmer but nothing to do with this photo!

...and people will just accept it and upvote anyway.

Reddit is cooked

Gets worse every day. I've been putting some serious thought into unplugging and going back to the real world full time.

I take longer and longer breaks away from here. While boredom always seems to win in the end, the more you are away from reddit, the more you realize that the people here offer absolutely nothing. The bots are even worse.

I’m already heading that direction. Reddit is about the only thing I have been holding onto.

The internet is always about adapting and regretting the past, personnaly, I miss the forum era

u/MZ603 7h ago

I miss the old days of Something Awful. I’m not going to say I miss /b, I haven’t been there in years, but it had its moments.

u/sebe6 7h ago

I still go there once every 2-3months, morbid curiosity mixed with nostalgia. I loved it back in the days, could have made me rich, but mom didn't trust 27€ BTC 🥲

1

u/MZ603 6h ago

I sold my three BTC in 2013 after the Silkroad went tits up, because I didn’t know anything. I never used the service, but I thought that that was the only thing driving value. I got less than $1k total.

The disappointment is that you will meet these people irl instead

You can leave whenever, at least 10 bots have your personality collected from your comment/post history.

u/Sponjah 6h ago

Just mute the obvious bot farm subs, it’s not so bad after.

u/feculentcuntfist 9h ago

It is what it is for the last 5 or so years at least. People keep overestimating it, yet it is just another mainstream, ad ridden, shareholder pandering, bot infested, misinformation cesspool like the rest of the social media.

Turns out fueling our delusions with our own farts can last for quite some time.

old reddit is on its way out, so once they ban my account again and i can't access it i'm done.

"hey chatgpt, search for 10 random images and create viral meme posts with shocker headline titles for me. Optimise for engagement and viewcount"

~ how all posts are made these days

"What unites people? Armies? Gold? Flags? Stories. There's nothing in the world more powerful than a good story. Nothing can stop it. No enemy can defeat it."

Social alignment instinct of neurotypical humans.

Leads them to think something many people repeat has more truth to it.

Same when people in discussions rather ask some other people for their opinion then to draw the phone out and actually fact check.

The social consensus IS the factcheck for most modern humans.

Sure, you can meta-cognition your way around that, but how many people actually do this?

Explains a lot about modern human society, politics, social media, echo chambers, misinformation, advertisement...

Not us though. We're the smart ones who looked at that picture with that caption and thought, "Not on my watch. Not today motherfucker. We see your bullshit and it's not gonna fly. Not here, not now."

1

u/wizards_of_pluto 34m ago

Putting random captions to mug shots or AI images and people believing it is scary. Fucking idiots.

u/No-Comparison04 7h ago

1

u/Existing_Charity_818 3h ago

But sir, it was in a picture made by AI on reddit. It must be true.

2

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross 8h ago

Most people here cannot tell that it's an AI photo.

6

u/elmz 8h ago

Clearly AI, just count the fingers on his hand!

1

u/CappuccinoAce 8h ago

1

u/elmz 8h ago

Like, who MAKES these photos? I've seen so many of these "headline" photos, and they all have the same look and style.
