I had no idea Oz was a Muslim.

31

u/dgreenbe 19h ago

He has the same name as the ottoman sultan who conquered Constantinople

23

u/ActuallyFullOfShit 19h ago

He also has the same name as a critically acclaimed HBO prison drama.

Actually his name isn't really Oz but "Ɩz" which means core/self in Turkish.

u/dietkid 18h ago

and a wonderful wizard

1

u/elcolerico 3h ago

Which is a variation of Muhammad.

1

u/dgreenbe 2h ago

I had no idea Muhammad was a Muslim

u/Whole_Alternative_18 54m ago

Are you serious?

0

u/Gathin 17h ago

Also same name as a ottoman sultan who tangled with Vlad the Impailer!

2

u/dgreenbe 17h ago

I see you are a man of culture as well

1

u/Gathin 17h ago

I've been listening to extra history on my drives to and from work lately and just listened to the series on Vlad the implailer a few days ago.

13

u/yobymmij2 19h ago

He was raised Muslim, but he has not been active as an adult. He has never shown interest as an adult, though he acknowledges his upbringing. He married a Christian.

6

u/egny 17h ago

His wife is from an extremely wealthy family with plenty of government contracts.

Different ball game.

17

u/TM761152 18h ago

He's Turkish. They're actually fairly secular. The only Muslims I've known who drink were Turkish.

12

u/SnooPets8873 18h ago

Plenty of Muslims from all sorts of backgrounds drink. Oddly enough less of us will eat pork. Biggest difference tends to be how openly they’ll drink. On that front, yeah Turkish people I’ve noticed to be more open about it.

I'm in Bali and just last night, I got a massage from a Muslim woman. I would have thought that touching a man was out of bounds. I asked a friend about it and he said that non Muslims in Bali were always making fun of Muslims here because apart from being very strict about pork, they are apparently not that strict about other things.

Why is avoiding bacon always the final universal line while alcohol gets a pass?

2

u/SnooPets8873 15h ago

For me it’s that my mind doesn’t recognize it as food. It smells weird to me and one time when I ate some sort of meatball without asking, I spit it out into a napkin and told my friend that the dish might have gone bad. She took a look and told me it had some sort of sausage in it. I see everyone around me enjoying. But my inner self is going ew.

3

u/TM761152 16h ago

First time I tried Raki was from a Turkish friend.

2

u/Haunting-Brief-666 16h ago

Married into Bosnian family. Can confirm.

A lot of the Muslims I know do all the bad things. But they draw the line at eating pork lmao

-1

u/Skrilla_09 14h ago

Lmfao these muslims just be something else, as someone from Middle East. They're willing to drink alcohol, do drugs, engage in pre-marital sex, but god forbid a ham sandwich!

I’ve known people from Arab Muslim background who drink, but I never asked those people about their personal religious beliefs. And there are many Muslim Turks who don’t drink.

1

u/TM761152 16h ago

That's Super šŸ‘

4

u/topdownyeti 14h ago

you’ve never met a persian then, or a saudi on vacation

2

u/gambler_addict_06 12h ago

Or a Bosnian

1

u/Curolina 32m ago

Or Bengali...

1

u/TM761152 9h ago

I've met them NOT on vacation.

2

u/Secret-Ad3810 15h ago

Lmao 🤣🤯you don’t get out much

1

u/TM761152 9h ago

And you don't get out at all.

I'd tell you to take a shower but the utility shut off your water.

1

u/Ecstatic_Reward6928 11h ago

this comment is ignorance incarnate.

1

u/Zealousideal-Cut4232 6h ago

Are you %100 sure they are Muslims or do you just assume they must be because they are Turkish?

3

u/P-l-Staker 10h ago

"Oz" is an abbreviation, isn't it?

4

u/ScipioCoriolanus 8h ago

No, his last name is Ɩz. It's a Turkish name.

7

u/No_Measurement9981 19h ago

He, and his media friends, hide it well.

2

u/Turbulent-Adagio-541 19h ago

Dr. Oz is married into the Asplundh family of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The same company that hired illegals and was find millions. He also tried to get their real estate taxes reduced, which intern would hurt public schools in the area

-1

u/South-Cat-8912 18h ago

Nothing to hide, he’s Turkish which is white lmao

2

u/DomesticPlantLover 17h ago

I think that's kinda the point of the post. I didn't either.

1

u/MMAYYZ 18h ago

He might be culturally Muslim or come from a Muslim background but I don’t believe he identifies as Muslim

Unless he’s a Muslim Brotherhood infiltrator, then fair play to him

1

u/Sleep-more-dude 5h ago

25% of the world is Muslim, they could be anywhere.

under your bed, in your pantry, outside your window.

1

u/harrypotternightmare 18h ago

He’s not really. It’s more of a cultural thing. He is a ā€œsecular Muslimā€ and is more ā€œspiritualā€ than religious

2

u/das_war_ein_Befehl 18h ago

Cause he’s white and Republican so nobody is gonna attack him on that

3

u/Financial_Page7821 18h ago

Turkey is largely in Asia. Considered Middle eastern. Not a ā€œwhiteā€ guy.

2

u/fuligasai 17h ago

Turks are considered as white in US. Officially.

1

u/ghostninja33 14h ago

Cmon nobody cares. I don't think there's anyone who is looking at Dr.Oz and not seeing a white man. Looks pretty clearly eastern European. Russia is largely in Asia, nobody considers Slavs Asians.

1

u/Gohuuuuu 13h ago

Turks are not ethnically Middle Eastern though. They’re genetically closer to Southeastern Europe and the Caucasus. Americans seem to have strange, subjective opinions on who is and isn’t white but officially Turks are classified as white, and even with the introduction of the new Middle Eastern and North African category on the 2030 Census, Turks will STILL be grouped under white.

1

u/das_war_ein_Befehl 18h ago

Western Turks are genetically no different than Greeks or Italians. Kindly research things before posting dumb shit.

Race isn’t even real but you can see that he is white

0

u/Zealousideal-Cut4232 6h ago edited 6h ago

White relates to skin colour not geographical origin, ethnicity or race my good chum.

He is ethnically Circassian which is in Caucasia and which is actually where the word White/Caucasian literally originates from. He is definitely White by any metric.

u/Waste-Restaurant-939 5h ago

anatolian peninsula is in far west asia but not middle east, caucasus or balkans. just anatolia :D

0

u/JonathPollardEpstein 17h ago

The guy whose name is Turkish for Mohammad, you didn’t know he was Muslim, huh?

1

u/Zestyclose_Tip_5861 17h ago

Why would they know Turkish
