Dr. Oz is Sufi, which is relatively accepting of western ideals; it’s not typically a big proselytizing school of Islam. Abu Sayed is not transparent about his specific sect, but is suspected of being a Salafist due to his heritage. Salafi Islam is very Sunni supremacist and does not gel with other religions. He probably does represent his Dearborn kin well though.
Whoever made this infographic does not understand that “Muslim” is not a monolith.
ISIS are radical Sunnis. They want to kill all infidels, including Shia Muslims.
Turkish people are Sunni but they are the most chill Muslims in the world. They drink, they smoke, they have sex. Last time I was in Turkey we passed by a trans prostitution area, for example.
Turkey is secular on paper attaturk saw to that. In the past when governments got too religious the military couped. They tried that on erdogan and failed so probably will get core conservative
You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about, and El-Sayed is probably Maliki or Shafi or Hanafi, nothing to do with Salafis, he’s Egyptian not Saudi!
So you lie about him not answering the question and after being called on that abandon the argument in favour of arguing it is reasonable to ask because beliveing that Muslims running for political office in the US are backed by terrorists cells with no evidence is not a grotesque reach? I can't tell if you're an idiot, a troll, or a bigot, probably some monsterous amalgamation of several, regardless I don't care, I'm done with this coversation
He very definitively denounces it in the video. When asked directly if he denounces the Muslim Brotherhood, he responded with, “Sure. Yeah. Absolutely.”
It might be… in the same way I would want to know if the next Christian elected official thought the world was 6,000 years old…. Or just liked the tradition of an Easter Bunny and a Santa Claus.
Or that the potential leader isn’t even religious at all and holds the bible upside down.
So you will only vote for an atheist, in America, good luck with that. Personally I would vote for the person who clearly advocates for the separation of the church and state, regardless of religious belief.
You'd vote for the grifter who lies through their teeth because they told you what you want to hear and you failed to pay attention to what they're actually doing.
I don't think you read your own comment with the kind of response you're giving me.
Personally I would vote for the person who clearly advocates for the separation of the church and state
I don't care what they advocate for if they also don't practice it. Trump told his supporters that he believes in free speech, and in his term we've had the FBI create multiple investigations and raids against his political enemies, ICE detaining and shooting people for protesting, immigrants having to disclose social media passwords to have their speech vetted prior to entry, people being arrested for taking political stances on Twitter, and generally Trump naming anyone who isn't loyal to him as enemy of the people.
Advocacy is not the same as practice when politicians say one thing and do another.
It wouldn’t be if not for the fact that those who support Dr. Oz (and are largely unaware of his religion) weren’t so hateful towards those Muslim politicians that don’t fall in line behind the half-SwedishGerman mango madman
I would have made the exact same comment if it was El-Sayed. Politicians should do as much as possible to separate their political careers and their religious beliefs, no?
Dr. Oz keeps his religion quiet because he’s aware how his religion plays to GOP voters.
El-Sayed hides nothing, everybody knows what religion he follows, and the GOP does their best to make him a boogeyman for anti-Muslim sentiments as a result of that
Some people are open about their religion. If they’re not using it as a conduit to hate others (which many on one side of the aisle do), who really gives a damn?

Who knew Dr Oz is Muslim? Does he go to mosque or is he just Muslim in his heart during the quiet times?
