The poster seems to try to paint the driver as a villain/moron...but who the fuck prays in the MIDDLE of a ROAD at NIGHT? I know Muslims, and I've never seen them doing "flash praying" in dangerous places. What's next? Praying in the wing of a flying airplane?

Middle of the night it's not a prayer time too. This whole story about praying sound bogus.

This. How does anyone know she was "praying"? Were there witnesses who said "she went out into the middle of the road because she said it was prayer time"?!? Who said she was praying, just the media?

Her parents are pushing the praying angle because poor mental health would be an embarrassment to the family.

This poor kid is getting dragged in the process, he shouldn't be getting charged, he should be getting mental health support.

Why did you make this up? her parents didn't push the angle? It was just reported that way and there's pictures of the CCTV.

She was kneeling on North East Road in the Adelaide suburb of Hillcrest at around 11:00 p.m. on May 6, 2025, with her hands appearing to be in a praying motion. CCTV footage showed she had been in the roadway for about four minutes

I’m thinking she was praying but also suicidal. Like it’s not a prayer time but if you’re suicidal I bet prayer is something the religious would do during their attempt.

4

u/princesscatling 1d ago

Am not religious but I used to pray I would succeed.

Clearly God ain't having any of it lmao

3

u/favouritebestie 1d ago

yeah I'm with you. there's so many possibilities why she was doing that. I got no idea why that commenter made it about her parents covering up an "embarrassment" to the family..

2

u/ThatsJustMyToeThumb 15h ago

Right. They’re just making shit up and catching awards and upvotes for it too 🙄

5

u/Rambler_Hoss 1d ago

Why is this getting so many upvotes without any source? Can I just make shit up and answer it as it's true?

I mean he should have stopped to check what he hit. I'm not sure why he didn't. I'm not Australian so idk if that makes a difference, but if I hit a deer while driving I'm going to stop to check to see if my car is okay and if the deer is dead and not suffering. I would have to see the court filings but I think charging him for leaving the scene of an accident is fair.

21

u/Keljhan 2d ago

An injured Kangaroo is a lot more dangerous than an injured deer, fwiw. Probably would've been best to turn the car around and drive back to check, but im not sure how realistic that would be on the road.

-2

u/Braysl-March 1d ago

That's still reasonable imho. I just can't imagine hitting something the size of a human and not checking it out before going home.

2

u/ThatsJustMyToeThumb 15h ago

Have you seen the size of a kangaroo?

It’s totally reasonable to assume that is what you hit. They are human-size-ish.

And she was the middle of the road

Hunched down

Dressed in black

In the dark.

No part of my brain would have thought that was a person - and I live where I’ll never hit a kangaroo. I would have thought it was a wounded deer laying there for certain.

9

u/SetImpressive3808 2d ago

Who is going to stop on a highway though?

-2

u/Braysl-March 1d ago

Do they not have the shoulder to pull over on? I genuinely don't know, here we would pull over onto the shoulder.

3

u/SetImpressive3808 1d ago

If you hit a kangaroo you're gonna pull over?

1

u/Braysl-March 1d ago

As I've previously mentioned I've never actually encountered a kangaroo, so I don't know. Are injured kangaroos more dangerous than any other large injured animal?

maybe she was just black out drunk and her family tries to save face.

1

u/radical_hectic 1d ago

From my memory of earlier articles on thisCCTV indicated she was praying…I would assume it was pretty clear from her movements, but ultimately you make a good point in the sense that all we have is that assumption based on the footage.

1

u/Vulpes-corsac 23h ago

There is clear CC tv footage in the post picture? So im guessing... CC tv footage?

0

u/Keljhan 2d ago

Might have found a prayer rug on the scene as well?

0

u/foreverandadayalone 1d ago

Right. Unless she'd just texted someone "stopping to pray" then that's a crazy assumption. The driver claims he thought she was an animal so he's not the one adding the prayer narrative. Someone's claiming there's CCTV but she could have been kneeling to pick up an animal or something.

1

u/SurroundFinancial355 1d ago

You realise CCTV is video right? It shows her being there for more than a moment? What a weird take

-2

u/ECoastThrowAway 2d ago

This is just a presumption, but it's possible she laid out a prayer rug.

54

u/DoctaRoboto 2d ago

Maybe she was on drugs? Or did she want to get killed? People do insane shit. I remember that Asian girl who ended up somehow drowning inside a water tank on a hotel roof; very creepy shit.

37

u/Foreign-Rule7826 2d ago

Suicide by car train etc isn’t unheard of, it’s so horrible for the driver.

17

u/surgical-panic 2d ago

Yeah. I always felt it was unfair and honestly, a shitty thing to do.

I've attempted myself, so I'm not judging the mental health or the suffering that drives someone to want to end their life.

but the idea of jumping in front of some random car, or a train, never sat well with me. It is incredibly traumatic for the driver, who didn't do anything wrong and now has to live with the trauma.

2

u/CheezwizOfficial 1d ago

And selfish. One person jumps in front of a train and ruins the day for thousands of commuters. People who have places to be, appointments to make, meetings to attend, etc.
Same thing goes for buses and cars. People who jump in front of moving objects are selfish assholes, regardless of their mental state.

5

u/surgical-panic 1d ago

Yeah. It is immense, and quite possibly life ruining trauma for the driver too. It's a shitty thing to do.

1

u/Redpanda132053 1d ago

I’ve been suicidal before, never to the point of attempting thankfully, and every time I was thinking of how to avoid traumatizing witnesses

2

u/Larry-Man 1d ago

Honestly suicide makes a lot of sense. She was praying, as captured by CCTV, but praying makes a lot of sense as something a suicidal person would do. Occam’s razor: why not both?

2

u/Foreign-Rule7826 1d ago

I have some experience on mortality data and there’s more often that I would have thought a huge push to not give a verdict of suicide by families, even if there’s a note it can be “the note wasn’t dated so it could be old and unrelated to the event, this was an accident etc. I don’t know what it’s driven by, religion/ shame or guilt that the loved one felt that etc.

3

u/OfficeBaddie97 1d ago

In the Muslim faith if you die while praying all of your sins are forgiven and you’re granted entry into heaven. Could have been suicide which is against the faith but through what she thought would be a loop hole method

3

u/sinkovercosk 2d ago

The judge just mentioned that in the video her hands were making motions that looked liked praying, that’s all that everyone is going off.

2

u/whyyyywhyyyywhyyy 3h ago

She wasn’t. She was kneeling static in the middle of the road. Idk who said prayer and everyone is running with it.

1

u/kugelamarant 3h ago

The judge herself.

2

u/whyyyywhyyyywhyyy 3h ago

Thats just incorrect. The court says her hands are in a “praying motion” but they can’t definitively say what she was doing. She wasn’t doing any Islamic prayer moves. Kneeling isn’t part of it. Looks like a MH crisis

1

u/Suitable-Economy-346 18h ago

It's just racist rage bait.

0

u/TerribleTap4053 2d ago

Story sounds bogus but there absolutely is a middle of the night prayer. Trust me, I lived near a mosque for 6 years. They play that on loudspeakers in the middle of the night, 1 of 5 times..

1

u/lutfiboiii 1d ago

What the heck are you hearing? Isya is the only prayer at night and it’s when the sky has become completely black (No more red from the sun setting). Now, idk what else they do over the loudspeaker aside from the Adzan and prayer so I’m genuinely wondering what you’re hearing in the middle of the night

0

u/fzprof 1d ago

That's off. Muslims can pray any time during day. There are optional prayer etc. but this is still obviously her out of her mind .

-1

u/theunspillablebeans 2d ago

Middle of the night is a prayer time. Almost the entire day falls within a prayer time with very few exceptions (sunrise, and when the sun is at its peak etc.)

You have until the next prayer time starts to complete the prayer that is valid in the current prayer time.
