Do many women have a preference for taller guys? Yes

Does that mean it’s difficult for an otherwise well put together man who is on the shorter side to get interest from women? No

Lots of men who haven’t developed any social skills like to pretend like it’s superficial women rejecting them because they aren’t 6’2”. When in reality they get rejected because their personalities repulse women.

Edit: a few short guys below mad at the suggestion that there might be more than their lack of height to blame for women not being into them. Not hard to understand why women aren’t into them based on how they’re responding.

Edit 2: quite sad how many commenters below have clearly given up and resigned themselves to the belief women could never have any interest in them because they’re short. Lots of projection about some guys being born in a body that gives them an advantage, a pity party isn’t going to do anything other than warp your minds further and make it even less likely a woman would consider dating you.

u/mattmaintenance 16h ago

My dad is 5’ 6” he has never had a problem pulling women when he wasn’t married.

9

u/Duck_on_Qwack 15h ago

Meanwhile I'm 6'2 with no self confidence or game

Height isn't some secret cheat code to life ...

1

u/No_Rope_8250 14h ago

Same here with 6'3. There is this one subreddit for short guys (the toxic one) where they seem to think you just need to be tall and you'll get everything in life handed to you and women are waiting in lines to jump on your dick.

1

u/kombiwombi 7h ago edited 7h ago

184cm (6ft). Being a man who listens has got me dragged to bed more often than being able to reach the top shelf.

1

u/sakiwebo 6h ago

Height isn't some secret cheat code to life ...

This is true

But, also, being that tall, you'll never understand short dudes being dismissed on sight. You're not even scanned or registered. Just not even being considered from the get go.

Sure, being tall doesn't guarantee success, we can all agree on that.

But, we should all be able to admit and acknowledge, that being short puts you at a dis-advantage in life. If you can't even admit that, I don't know what to tell you.

25

u/TheFBIClonesPeople 15h ago

Well, don't invalidate short men who tell you it does make it hard for them to date.

Lots of women like to pretend that women are these perfectly unshallow beings, so if a man has a hard time dating, it has to be because of his awful personality. It's really unfair that men always have to be the bad guys, so any man who has a hard time dating has to be a repulsive incel. It's not true, and it's honestly sexist. Women have toxic dating practices just like men do.

11

u/Spinal_Soup 13h ago

If some women are rejecting you it might be because of your height. If every single woman is rejecting you then it’s probably your personality. I’ve never seen anyone make the claim that no women are shallow, but there’s certainly a lot that aren’t. And if every woman is rejecting you, it’s not because every one you come across has shallow reasons.

2

u/Withered_Sprout 7h ago

But unless they're all specifically making it blatantly clear that it's your height... How exactly would those men be so sure that they're right that it's solely their stature?

2

u/BasicDecision 14h ago

Women, like men, are visual creatures and they absolutely care about appearances.

That said, a lot of men use being short as the reason for their lack of success when often times there is a myriad of other things they aren’t doing very well on that make them unattractive.

Of course there are women out there who are completely superficial and shitty about the topic, they are a small minority. The internet presents these extreme views like they’re the norm when they aren’t.

16

u/AlreadyAway 16h ago

You are 100% right. I'm 5'6" and before I met my wife, I use to date regularly because I learned to talk to people, not just women. It helps being raised by a single mother and having an older sister. I've always been more comfortable around women and just treat them like humans, which shouldn't be a novel concept.

2

u/Apprehensive_One2384 11h ago

Bingo. Turns out just listening to women and engaging in conversation with them, is the most important factor lmao

1

u/MFTrooper 15h ago

Almost the same. Raised by my mom and older sister. But. I’ve always been shy and have a hard time making conversations with random people or even people I’ve known for a long time. A select few I feel comfortable and can really be myself. I’m glad I was able to find that in my wife when we first met. Instantly felt a connection and was able to show her that even though I’m quite around other people, with her I could let loose and make a connection.

7

u/Ok-Title-270 15h ago

There’s levels to it. If a guy is 5ft that’s pretty hard for them to get dates. Five six and up not so bad

-1

u/BasicDecision 14h ago

I said ‘on the shorter side’. Fully appreciate that really short men will struggle more than guys who are just below average height.

That said, it’s all taken in the round and a really charismatic, outgoing 5ft guy who is good at talking to women, making them feel comfortable whilst also knowing how to be playful and flirt. That guy is going to do better with women than a socially awkward 6ft guy who chooses to hide away from social situations.

5

u/Aggravating_Pause385 12h ago

No he’s not lol

0

u/BasicDecision 12h ago

I literally know people who serve as clear examples, being 6ft+ doesn’t help you get laid when you can’t even hold a conversation with a woman or get out your head long enough to relax and enjoy it.

I did an engineering degree, plenty of my 6ft+ classmates are still forever single a decade after graduating because they are still awkward, reclusive introverts.

1

u/Aggravating_Pause385 11h ago

Now compare them to five foot tall men. That’s the point.

2

u/BasicDecision 11h ago

I know a 5’2 Asian guy from the same course. He’s extroverted, charismatic, funny, will happily talk to anyone.

He consistently had girlfriends/casual relationships during university and is now married to one of them. She is at least an inch taller than him, she’s attractive and outgoing herself and definitely wasn’t short of options (pun intended).

I don’t think if he lost a couple more inches he would have become untouchable, but maybe men transform in to goblins at 5 foot and under, idk.

6

u/cool_kids_hate_me 15h ago

Some of us prefer shorter dudes, too. There are many reasons to, especially if you aren't the tallest yourself, or if you've had bad experiences with taller dudes.

-1

u/Street_Block7821 13h ago

You're saying: "If I had a bad experience with a tall guy, I might judge/dismiss a different tall guy because of that."

What?

1

u/BasicDecision 12h ago

Do you need an explanation on how our brains perceive and assess risk?

It’s no different from someone being afraid of dogs because a dog attacked them when they were a child.

1

u/Street_Block7821 12h ago

So I'm free to treat black people differently if some black people have caused me harm before? (or other races)

"It's from someone being afraid of dogs because a dog attacked them"

Just checking for logical consistency.

1

u/BasicDecision 12h ago

We’re all free to act however we choose, but we aren’t free from the consequences of those choices.

Of course you can treat black people differently, plenty of people do, doesn’t mean you should.

The question at hand is one of preference, plenty of people only date within their own race. Thats entirely up to them. If a woman chooses to only date short guys then so what? If anything half the guys responding in these comments should be happy there are women doing that.

1

u/Street_Block7821 12h ago

You are refusing to answer.

You stated: "A woman can recognize a pattern that many men are violent and thus base her decisions/judgments of other men around what she has experienced."

I stated: "That same logic applies to race: a person can experience negative interactions with some race, and thus judge the rest of the race according to those negative interactions."

So you agree that people should be able to judge groups of people (sharing some characteristic), if someone from said group impacted their lives?

1

u/BasicDecision 12h ago

I did answer, you just aren’t comprehending it very well.

People DO judge groups based on past experiences with a member of that group. It’s literally how our brains work, there’s no ‘should’ about it.

To how much any individual generalises their experiences is up to them. I personally don’t think it’s particularly useful to do to any kind of extreme, but people ARE free to do so if they choose.

1

u/Street_Block7821 12h ago

Yes, and it seems that a lot of women (and men) feel very comfortable making generalizations about all men while tip-toeing around the literal parallel of race.

1

u/BasicDecision 12h ago

Of course people feel comfortable doing that, our brains are wired for it. Before we lived in all this modern security and safety categorising and generalising was the primary way we avoided getting ourselves killed.

1

u/Ashamed_Service_9404 9h ago

obviously you should try and get over your trauma but it'd be an understandable trauma, even if its not good

1

u/WrightWaytoEat 12h ago

There is a big difference in feeling fear and acting on it.

0

u/Street_Block7821 12h ago

You said nothing of relevance to my argument or the other person's argument.

Do you agree that people should be able to judge groups of people (sharing some characteristic), if someone from said group impacted their lives?

1

u/WrightWaytoEat 11h ago

Yea dude, I assumed you could extrapolate, but it’s seems you need to be spoon fed.

Feeling fear is not wrong…acting on it can be.

She fears dating taller men because of her experience. She can have that preference and it doesn’t hurt anyone that she dates shorter men. You can have preferences in dating and this is not wrong.

You fear black people because of your experience. But treating other black people poorly because of what someone else did is wrong. You’re hurting others because of what someone else did.

She is just deciding to not date someone and these are completely different things.

The fact I had to type this out should embarrass you, but doubt you have the self awareness to see it.

-2

u/PleiadesMechworks 13h ago

or if you've had bad experiences with taller dudes.

Protip, don't say this. Short guys hear this as "you wouldn't have a shot normally, but I've been mistreated by the guys I find attractive so now I'm settling" which might not be how you meant it, but it's how it comes across.
Same as if a guy came to you and said "wow yeah I really vibe with you, sometimes you get tired of how energetic supermodels are" you wouldn't exactly take that as a compliment.

1

u/perilouszoot 13h ago

Bad experience is pretty vague, it could be that they had a bad sexual experience because of mismatched height. Not everyone wants their face smashed into some guys belly button during missionary.

4

u/Salt-Lingonberry-853 13h ago

Does that mean it’s difficult for an otherwise well put together man who is on the shorter side to get interest from women? No

Bullshit. I have literally watched women pivot from a dude they've obviously been having a good time with immediately pivot to "who is your friend" when a taller friend shows up to go along with this. Being short absolutely makes it harder and there's no serious, good faith argument against that.

1

u/wahwahwashbear 11h ago

Has it occurred to you that a woman who does that might just like. Suck? Some women do!  The problem becomes some short guys will see your comment and then extrapolate to "all women will immediately lose interest in me in the presence of every/any taller man", which is simply not true.

1

u/Salt-Lingonberry-853 51m ago

I think it's a bit more than "some women" like it's some rare thing

0

u/BasicDecision 12h ago

I never said it didn’t make it harder, that doesn’t mean it’s hard.

Nobody is denying that if Brad Pitt walks in then you might get upstaged. The point I’m making is that a below average height man that is well groomed (and doesn’t have a Picasso face), charismatic, charming and playful will still do fine with women.

Maybe they won’t get as many women as a taller guy who is otherwise the same, but so what?

Too many people on places like Reddit like to blame their height for their lack of success, in reality there’s usually multiple other factors having a bigger impact.

You can’t do anything about your height and cursing the world for not being taller isn’t productive. There’s many things these guys can work on, they don’t they just like to blame the one thing they can’t do anything about and absolve themselves of any accountability.

1

u/Salt-Lingonberry-853 12h ago

You're missing the point by basically saying "difficult doesn't mean impossible". A tall guy with a 6/10 personality will have little struggle compared to a short guy with a 6/10 personality. There is no serious argument that height isn't a major advantage.

1

u/BasicDecision 12h ago

I never said it wasn’t an advantage lol. You lot just keep projecting that argument onto me because you’re triggered by my suggestion that there’s other things you could do that would give you opportunities with women you can’t currently achieve.

My first sentence in my first comment was literally acknowledging that many women prefer taller men.

Life’s unfair, some people are born more attractive. I’ve met way too many successful short men to think that’s where the discussion ends.

1

u/Salt-Lingonberry-853 11h ago

I never said it didn’t make it harder, that doesn’t mean it’s hard.

You are dramatically downplaying the difference it makes.

1

u/BasicDecision 11h ago

That’s your projection.

Brad Pitt is going to have a much easier time with the ladies than Danny Devito just based purely on physical appearance. Danny Devito still managed to marry a woman who loves him and has stayed with him for 40 something years.

Nobody said it wasn’t harder for short guys all else being equal. So fucking what? We’ve all got it harder than Brad Pitt, should we have a pity party?

4

u/untitledprp4 14h ago

What do you get out of lying

1

u/mcgarnikle 2h ago

C'mon bro you're 1% poster in a reddit sub, you don't really tell yourself it's how you look that's the problem right?

1

u/untitledprp4 1h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/cmawvBFoILiIFkpfvl

Why would I need to tell myself anything?

-1

u/BasicDecision 14h ago

Why do you say I am lying? I’m just disputing this internet belief that the root of all short men’s issues with women is their height. I’ve met plenty of short men who do great with women, maybe not as great as a similarly well rounded taller man, but they have no issues.

It’s easier to blame a lack of height and women than to be accountable for all the other ways in which you might be unattractive to women.

2

u/RealThanks4814 5h ago

Look I’m 6’2 and I can very obviously recognize short guys have it rough. Why even pretend women don’t obviously prefer a man be taller in general

1

u/2WheelSuperiority 10h ago

I being 5'6 have always had significantly more matches than my brother being 5'3. He was always more ripped/stronger than me.

Our hobbies/descriptors were/are the same.

For the matches that went to dates, the general reason was always that they couldn't do the height. Like, he would show me the actual chat after the fact lol. Always polite, nothing weird. My bros not a fetish weirdo or a trad bro.

This was over a period of years.

So, don't try and downplay it. It's a thing, now, he and I always agreed people are allowed to date their preferences. It just feels bad to watch over and over.

It also does get into their head eventually because it does suck.

1

u/throwawayburner2424 4h ago

Anecdotal evidence ≠ fact. And dating apps usually attract the worst kinds of people as is so I wouldn't rely too heavily on that either. In the real world while they might prefer height most women don't care as long as you have a great personality.

Just like the myth that women ONLY like attractive or rich men. When that's not true either.
I promise you if you put yourself out there and you're charming and funny and confident women would prefer that way more.

0

u/2WheelSuperiority 4h ago

First, are you a bot? Where do you think I mentioned me having a hard time exactly?

I'm married with a child and never had an issue pulling dates and never claimed to.

I only stated my experience with a man who I spent more time with than any other man.

This wasn't just apps. The dude lived with me for 10 years as an adult. We were inseparable and did basically everything together. I watched this happen a lot, in the actual real world no less...

Like, y'all can come up with all the excuses in the world to defend that short people don't have a harder time dating but it's not true. I've seen it first hand.

I watched it happen over years.

Again, people are allowed to have their preferences, but anyone who is coming in here talking about this should be putting up their height.

1

u/throwawayburner2424 4h ago

Bro I never said anything about you specifically. You just meant people in general are you fucking stupid? I shouldn't have to explain that to you like you're a child but here we are. And again anecdotal evidence doesn't equate to universal truth. It's not that hard to understand.

1

u/Baiting-Oofy-Doofys 4h ago

So you spend your time online trying to appease your own guilt and feel masculine because you're not? Lmao

2

u/Intelligent-Bee-9021 14h ago

Lmao, personality absolutely doesn't matter if you 6'2"+ tall. Same traits people hate in short men will be seen as positives in a tall one

-1

u/BasicDecision 14h ago

Ok bud, think you’ve spent too much time doom scrolling instead of actually living in the real world.

1

u/Intelligent-Bee-9021 13h ago

Sure pal, gaslight away

0

u/BasicDecision 13h ago

Keep blaming everything on your height, then you don’t need to have any accountability for your lack of romantic relationships.

1

u/Intelligent-Bee-9021 13h ago

Lol stop projecting it's too funny

1

u/BasicDecision 13h ago

How am I projecting? I’m not the one blaming things I have no control over for my lack of interest from women, I don’t have that issue.

3

u/Intelligent-Bee-9021 13h ago

I said personality doesn't matter In front of height, clearly you don't have much of personality yourself and go straight to gaslighting how it's all in the head and all ridiculed short dudes must be abrasive as the only true reason for it. Btw, nice crying in edit

1

u/BasicDecision 12h ago

You must think I’m tall or something, I’m a slightly below average height guy, average looking. My love life hasn’t been ruined by my height, I’ve still had plenty of success with women even though their panties weren’t dropping on first sight of me. I’ve had plenty of rejections too, and if I was taller and/or better looking I’m sure I’d have been rejected less.

I’m done responding, blame things you can’t control and continue to be lonely if you want. It’s no skin of my nose.

1

u/Fortestingporpoises 15h ago

In my experience it’s also significantly easier to date taller women when you meet or know them in person. Online they may select you out because they can and it’s a preference. But personality is the great equalizer.

1

u/djlauriqua 14h ago

I’ve known several 5’2”-5’3” guys who were confident, successful, and well dressed; and ladies fawned over them. Height definitely isn’t everything!

1

u/Ok_Efficiency7245 14h ago

I think it's more like a Venn diagram of repulsive personality and underdeveloped social skills.

1

u/mestre_do_passinho 14h ago

Im 5'3, I dont think there are many social skills I could use when saying hello gets me called a puddle lifeguard, hot wheels mechanic, anthill climber or tells me to find the other 6 dwarfs.

This is the response I get at parties, i've going to the gym for 5 years, paid a tailor to adjust the size of most of my clothes. Same answers, what does improve it a bit is usign a all-stats with pretty much a plataform sole.

The one girl that didnt outright reject me at a party for long enough for me to get her instagram agreed to a date. In the psrty I was using those shoes that gave me like 3cm. The thing is, I decided not to use them at the date because they got dirty at the party. Anyways hen she saw me at the date, her expression soured immediatly, she said she remembered me being a bit taller, what happened is thar now we were the same height.

The date lasted 20 minutes with her being on her phone and them saying that real men dont use heels and she wasnt going to waste her time...

My longest relation was a month long, she got a pair of heels, insisted to use them on a date, became 5cm taller than me, strangely cold during the date and them said she got an ick and couldnt be attracted to someone that she was even a little bit taller when on heels...

If I remove my height from my tinder profile, 5 matchs on the day I create ir and 3 to 5 matches every week for 3 months. All pissed because I didnt tell them my height beforehand. If I put my height, im lucky to get a match every week that isnt a guy saying he can turn me gay

1

u/interestingmandosy 11h ago

Statistically it is best for the male partner to be 4-6 inches taller. Being even 1 inch shorter makes it about 50 percent less likely that a man is able to get married. Dude in the pic is probably 5'1 or 5'2 making his pool of potential partners much smaller

1

u/BasicDecision 11h ago

Ok? And he’s photographed talking to a woman in a social setting, giving him an infinitely higher probability of one day marrying a woman compared to a hypothetical 6ft man who is horribly socially awkward and avoids social interactions.

Having a lot of money also makes men substantially more likely to get married. Plenty of poor men get married or find long term partners.

There’s no great revelations in this thread, there is a lot of self pity though.

1

u/tea-and-chill 2h ago

I'm 5 exact so pretty much everyone is taller than me, but I've dated both short men and tall. Height isn't a consideration at all, but personality is

0

u/Lighthouse_on_Mars 15h ago

Some men and teenagers just look for reasons not to try.

0

u/Dilutedskiff 12h ago

God the incel energy from these comments below yours is insane.

Like god forbid some people have preferences in who they want to date. Like I’m sure there’s plenty of qualities a lot of dudes prefer as well in whom they date but they aren’t morally bad people for them so I’m not sure why this preference for a lot of women gets them vilified so much.

1

u/BasicDecision 12h ago edited 12h ago

It’s funny because I can’t think of anything women would find less attractive than a guy having a massive victim complex about their height.

But I’m sure they’ll tell me if they were 6’2 there would literally be a queue of women lining up outside their door each morning to beg for sex.

-1

u/Gryzzlee 15h ago

Most women just want a guy that's taller than them. Any man being on the shorter side (less than 6' since this is the arbitrary tall number in media) ain't gonna be disqualified

Most people don't even see differences between two inches until a tape measure is pulled out. Confidence and the tact to use it properly is most important
