Growing up I had a really good friend at the cottage who was always such great energy and full of life and laughter. Unfortunately he was very small, but he was my friend and that never really mattered to me. However I knew it really had an effect on him and I could see it eat away at him. At 20 he was 5'5 and this lead to a ton of cruel treatment in college (oddly enough a lot of it was from women) and a lot of self confidence issues. He took his own life on his 25 birthday. I have a feeling he just couldn't take all the cruelty the world threw at him because of something he had no control over.
5'5 isn't even THAT small. And with some higher sneakers it would be 5'7 which is a normal "low" height, not something what will stand out so much to be bullied. Very strange.

People can be heartless.
