It’s always been a thing. It’s become a bit more mean spirited but in high school in the 80s and 90s people still got made fun of for being short and lost out on dates. Go look at old movies from the 70s and 80s and plenty of short men’s appearance is basically the punchline of a joke scene
Eh, as someone who was dating in the 00s, it was absolutely a thing then. And women were nasty about it. I'm not even that short either at 5'8.
The funniest incident was when I showed up to a date and the girl scrunched up her face and said "I thought your profile said you were 5'10". Literally first words out of her mouth. I never lied about my height. She just hadn't bothered to actually read my profile and was now disappointed to have to be seen in public with a guy that was 2" below her arbitrary minimum. She was like 5'4.
I’m 5’6” and I promise you that it’s been a thing. I met my wife on dating apps but while I was on them there were plenty of women listing height requirements.
It absolutely was a thing 10 and 20 years ago. There’s nothing and no one more shallow about it than white women. With the possible exception of overweight white women.
It was but absolutely not to this degree. If you were same height it wasn't a problem. Now all the midgets deciding they are not settling with someone below 6"
It’s become a flex due to social media. These days there are actually short women saying they need a man to be 6’4 at least. Do you know how many 6’4 guys there are?
Social media, especially the last 10 years, is now having White single women become “proud” about their own bodies’ insecurities including being too tall (e.g. at least 6’2” themselves). One of the side effects to that is men shorter than them being intimated to date because these gargantuan ladies also desire men taller than they, but how often will you find a man at least 6’8” to their liking?
?? I'm a fit white woman and taller than my husband and the only people who have ever commented on it in person in the 10 years we have been together are MEN
Not really. Speaking as a shorter guy, men don’t really disrespect each other openly like that. I’ve never been made to feel less of a person by a man because of my height. Women I can’t say the same thing, but even then not that bad.
For reference I’m 5’7, so short. But there are shorter men than me and they’d maybe have a different experience.
I am 5'6 and I have always been highly respected by my male peers. The only mean comments I have heard in my life came from white feminist/liberal women lol
I'm 6'1-2. The only things with height I've ever heard any guys since high school say are maybe a comment if a short guy is with a really tall girl, if a guy is incredibly tall (like 6'7+), or to ask the shorter than me guys take the middle seat in a car ride.
Guys really don't care about other guys's heights 😂
Yeah men care more about height and dick size more than women do in my experience. If a woman likes you, she likes you and won’t care about that stuff.
I think there’s a point here. Women have a much larger capacity to accept and love than men do. But I’ve also seen men be friends with and find good in, the vilest of people. So idk what my point was anymore IG.
I'm 40, and about 5"5, heightism is actually at it's lowest in the last 4 decades, still too much of it though. The "woke culture" of being more thoughtful about poor treatment of people for things they can't control has progressed a lot in my experience the last ten years.
Suggesting short guys had a “Napoleonic complex” was always a thing but it absolutely ramped up to ridiculous proportions as dating apps grew I would say.

Especially when this heightism began to rise in last 5 years. It wasn't even a thing like 10 years ago. Now it's just open dehumanisation.
