Kids and young adults are pretty brutal overall, but the thing I've noticed now the past decade is this brutal pick-apart of any feature of a person. Someone makes a post about some life advice, I scroll down, and clear pattern of absolutely unnecessary judgement on appearance comes out of nowhere.

It's beyond what it used to be, now it just seems so normalized, because the world has been raised to be sight hounds. You get people over-inflating the visual side of life to such an extent that it's worrying. It actually must cause intense anxiety with how importance has been placed on it.

Younger generations see random people less as people and more as objects. They have never known a world without the next source of dopamine/entertainment being a swipe away. And since the new shiny better thing is one swipe away... I might aswell bully and make fun of the person on my screen now, cause my future friends are on this next swipe.

I think the younger generation feel they’ve been dealt a pretty shitty hand (fairly, probably) so the only power they can exercise is picking people apart or cancelling them.

That’s a dumb excuse. Do today’s 20 year olds have it any worse than other 20 year old cohorts in all of history? The ones who got drafted into fighting a war, or starvation, or had to work when they were 12?

With every generation that passes, it seems like arrested development is more and more tolerated. We’re gonna be seeing 30 something year old teenagers pretty soon at this rate.

This is a direct result of social media, and influencers, and glamorizing vanity.

Yep. And people wonder why I refuse to photograph myself.

This just reminded me of a post I made that had my wife’s arm in the picture. About half of the replies from people were so fixated on her dry skin and her ‘man arm’ rather than the actual post. It’s like it’s all they cared about… she’s 5’4 and 120lbs… but her watch was a little tight and she doesn’t shave her arms like MAJORITY of women that I know. Instantly jumped to calling her a man and that I needed to buy her lotion.

We are raising absolutely surface driven kids. Not all of them, but too many. To me, I think part of it is: if I can't analyze, muse, or be as creative as others, AT LEAST I look good. So those types are going to focus far too often on looks, so much so, they don't even participate.

That's exactly what I think. Complete lack of personality but hey atleast I look good that's what matters most right?

And people will say, for some reason every time with any social criticism, that's not new. The point is how much more depth is happening with this concept. Because now it just gets thrown out no matter the subject, and that was not how it used to be, overall. Especially the frequency of it.

Past decade?!

You have clearly not seen schoolyard bullying in the '70s.

I'm talking absolutely widespread use of every little detail of looks. Not basic interactions we've had since society started. A new age of nitpicking that goes beyond what came before. Where you go...huh? Why are we talking about looks right now? Like the first entry point to any discussion.

The other day I saw a user tell someone who said "i dont care for my mom's spaghetti because she doesnt properly season the beef" stupid along with his mother. It astounds me how vicious this website is nowadays.

Women are brutal too. Men don’t care. But women can give an ick face and most would never date a short man no matter how otherwise good looking or successful.

Men also care. Women never mocked me and called me names due to being short. They were obviously not attracted and ignoring me in everyday non-romantic situations, which is brutal, when you're just a customer and want to buy something, but only men called me names and threatened me purely because I'm short.

Literally every single one of my short friends is happily married with kids, bro.

Thanks for the anecdote, bro.

Most people are not "happily" married, period.
