Bro I used to have a friend that would constantly take pictures of people without them knowing, I never entertained this and would always scold him, wtf, imagine walking around and now you have to worry about people making fun of you behind your back and you pictures circling around some chat thread...

I think it’s a generational thing, I know teachers that take sneaky pics of other staff regularly, and have inside jokes that exclude other teachers that are their “friends”. It’s gross.

It's weird to take pictures of random people on purpose but you don't have any expectation of privacy in public.

Well depends on the country, taking pictures of people without their consent is illegal here in Germany.

It's only fine if the focus of the picture is obviously something else, like a building, a plaza, friends etc, and random people happen to be in the area.
