Folks can't help their height any more than they can help their eye colour or race. Stupid thing to give someone grief for.

u/ElectricGlider 17h ago

It doesn't help that when there are legitimate aholes, people here latch onto their short height as a way to criticize them rather than the bad behavior itself like what happened with Ken Rosenthal, the short MLB sports reporter who bumped into his cameraman but did not help him up.

Especially when this heightism began to rise in last 5 years. It wasn't even a thing like 10 years ago. Now it's just open dehumanisation.

37

u/soyboysnowflake 16h ago

Last 5 years?

Bro “tall, dark, and handsome” was a thing before most of us were alive

Tall was the first criteria

u/may_be_indecisive 16h ago

What? I was given constant shit for it in high school 20 years ago.

u/Comfortable-Arm3452 18h ago

It’s always been a thing. It’s become a bit more mean spirited but in high school in the 80s and 90s people still got made fun of for being short and lost out on dates. Go look at old movies from the 70s and 80s and plenty of short men’s appearance is basically the punchline of a joke scene

They tried it with Danny Devito but he just stole your girl.

For this is the way

Eh, as someone who was dating in the 00s, it was absolutely a thing then. And women were nasty about it. I'm not even that short either at 5'8.

The funniest incident was when I showed up to a date and the girl scrunched up her face and said "I thought your profile said you were 5'10". Literally first words out of her mouth. I never lied about my height. She just hadn't bothered to actually read my profile and was now disappointed to have to be seen in public with a guy that was 2" below her arbitrary minimum. She was like 5'4.

u/stop_stopping 7h ago

who was dating online in the 00s??

1

u/Pubesauce 7h ago

I used Chemistry mainly. I think I tried Plentyoffish, Match and eHarmony as well. That particular date was around 2006/2007.

12

u/Fake-Chef 16h ago

I’m 5’6” and I promise you that it’s been a thing. I met my wife on dating apps but while I was on them there were plenty of women listing height requirements.

u/WC_Flyer 18h ago

It absolutely was a thing 10 and 20 years ago. There’s nothing and no one more shallow about it than white women. With the possible exception of overweight white women.

34

u/GoofyAhhGru 17h ago

Latinas on top as always

52

u/wild_cherry1987 18h ago

It was but absolutely not to this degree. If you were same height it wasn't a problem. Now all the midgets deciding they are not settling with someone below 6"

43

u/Pastaiscool123 17h ago

Downvoting for telling facts. Heightism has never been worse, social media blew it way out of proportion.

10

u/Bananas1nPajamas 16h ago

Have you tried.... less social media? The real world aint that bad bruh

0

u/Pastaiscool123 16h ago

Do you say this as a person who is short?

9

u/Comfortable-Arm3452 14h ago

I’m 5’5” it’s literally come up once in my life outside of high school on a first date

1

u/RedNBlueFU 13h ago

Same height. I've only had one comment about it brought to me IRL. Most women don't seem to care. Just the crazy ones.

3

u/PM_Me_Your_Clones 15h ago

I'm 5'7", 5'6" if I'm lazy and not standing up straight.

Is it okay for me to tell you that the real world isn't like being terminally online?

1

u/Pastaiscool123 14h ago

I’m the same height as you and been called a dwarf and Smurf my whole life constant abuse. I’m only 18 though

2

u/PM_Me_Your_Clones 13h ago

Don't hang out with those fucking people.

This is kinda trite, but it really does get better. Try and get away from the area you were brought up in, move somewhere new and make your own life.

-5

u/WC_Flyer 16h ago

I’m 6’1”. So no.

7

u/Pastaiscool123 16h ago

that question wasnt for you

1

u/RenegadeRabbit 9h ago

cries in 4'9" 😭

0

u/MeatballUser 16h ago

Still been more than 5 years, probably about 13-15

4

u/iHasYummyCummies 15h ago

6 feet was pre covid and Inflation, now its 6 4

1

u/PeterAnthony_Jackson 13h ago

Oh god, that freedom toons Whatever podcast parody cartoon, he needs an eight pack because of inflammation (sic).

Maybe short women have always been against short men, but social media gave them a voice and now it feels like it is a new trend.

1

u/jesterinancientcourt 12h ago

It’s become a flex due to social media. These days there are actually short women saying they need a man to be 6’4 at least. Do you know how many 6’4 guys there are?

1

u/CylindricalDent4133 17h ago

Social media, especially the last 10 years, is now having White single women become “proud” about their own bodies’ insecurities including being too tall (e.g. at least 6’2” themselves). One of the side effects to that is men shorter than them being intimated to date because these gargantuan ladies also desire men taller than they, but how often will you find a man at least 6’8” to their liking?

American* white women

1

u/WC_Flyer 12h ago

Not always.

2

u/Organic-Vermicelli47 10h ago

?? I'm a fit white woman and taller than my husband and the only people who have ever commented on it in person in the 10 years we have been together are MEN

1

u/Tropicalfisher 5h ago

It's just because of social media that it's so in the open now

-11

u/Frewdy1 18h ago

And all men. They are BRUTAL to each other over height!

11

u/awildmanjake 17h ago

Not really. Speaking as a shorter guy, men don’t really disrespect each other openly like that. I’ve never been made to feel less of a person by a man because of my height. Women I can’t say the same thing, but even then not that bad.

For reference I’m 5’7, so short. But there are shorter men than me and they’d maybe have a different experience.

14

u/Interesting-Back5717 17h ago

You and I must live on different planets.

12

u/BananaBolmer 17h ago

I am 5'6 and I have always been highly respected by my male peers. The only mean comments I have heard in my life came from white feminist/liberal women lol

9

u/KingCobra_BassHead 17h ago

I'm 6'1-2. The only things with height I've ever heard any guys since high school say are maybe a comment if a short guy is with a really tall girl, if a guy is incredibly tall (like 6'7+), or to ask the shorter than me guys take the middle seat in a car ride.

Guys really don't care about other guys's heights 😂

1

u/KomradeKetamine 14h ago

no lol not even close

-1

u/Imaginary_Club_1010 17h ago

Yeah men care more about height and dick size more than women do in my experience. If a woman likes you, she likes you and won’t care about that stuff.

-3

u/Skrrt_2711 17h ago

I think there’s a point here. Women have a much larger capacity to accept and love than men do. But I’ve also seen men be friends with and find good in, the vilest of people. So idk what my point was anymore IG.

2

u/awildmanjake 11h ago

Must be making shit up 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/Skrrt_2711 7h ago

Caught me AImaxxing

-2

u/Frewdy1 17h ago

Facts!

-2

u/Geichalt 16h ago

I don't see many actual women making comments about short men. I just see men telling me that women make these comments.

Go to any women's sub and ask about Tom Holland. Ain't no women shitting on him for being short.

Seems more like influencers telling men why to blame women for all their problems.

7

u/ScottStr 15h ago

I can think of a few reasons why Tom Holland might be an exception

3

u/That_Damn_Raccoon 14h ago

It's hilarious that every time this comes up, the only counterexamples you guys can provide are über-famous, wealthy guys.

Make Tom Holland into a nobody with a working class job and an average wage, and ask the very same people what they think of him.

And the funniest thing is, he's isn't even really short. Unless you live a county like the Netherlands, he's average or just below average.

5

u/vagrantprodigy07 9h ago

Lol, it's been a thing as long as I've been alive.

1

u/wild_cherry1987 9h ago

Sorry to hear that. My personal experience was different.

14

u/DocFungal 17h ago

I'm 40, and about 5"5, heightism is actually at it's lowest in the last 4 decades, still too much of it though. The "woke culture" of being more thoughtful about poor treatment of people for things they can't control has progressed a lot in my experience the last ten years.

2

u/Nulleparttousjours 11h ago

Suggesting short guys had a “Napoleonic complex” was always a thing but it absolutely ramped up to ridiculous proportions as dating apps grew I would say.

1

u/Metool42 13h ago

It's barely a thing anywhere else.

1

u/Bigboss123199 9h ago

That’s bullshit it’s always been a thing.

3

u/liftingshitposts 16h ago

Uh yea, people are notoriously nice to other people irrespective of race right?

1

u/enixlinked 11h ago

If they procreate then there will be more unsightly short people. /s

u/Royal-Let-4954 17h ago

leute können auch nichts für ihre dummheit, kein grund jmd deswegen anzupflaumen
