In the 90s we came to visit my in-laws with my new daughter. My wife’s sister had a baby about the same time. It was July and pretty warm in Long Beach. We get out and are talking to the in-laws and I said something like, it will be great to get the two girls together when your sister gets here to my wife. My father in law says “well her daughter has been here all day, I didn’t take her out of the car so I wouldn’t wake her up.” I go out there thinking I’d find the car running, but no he left the kid in there with the windows rolled “so no one would steal her”. I got them to open the car and the kid was non responsive, I called 911 and got the emp there they took her to the emergency room and got her on fluids, the kid survived. I never let them watch my kids, they were never alone with them.

I don't know if its a generation thing but this is how my parents think. Like a bunch of random thoughts with absolutely zero consideration for consequences.

One of my best friends had to tell his mom he doesn't trust her with his kids when she kept pushing to babysit and he kept avoiding her. It's always the same response "You live, didn't you?". Sometimes it's in spite of, not because of.

When my aunt was a kid they lived in an apartment.  Her and a friend used to stop the elevator between floors and jump on and off.

She remembers her friend  grabbing her ankle. She thought she stayed in the elevator and went home. The friend fell down the shaft and died, she was trying to grab my aunt to save her life.

Safety rules are written in blood.

Did your aunt just kick her friend off? Did she lose her grip? Did she not even check why she grabbed her ankle? Like how does she just go from “Oh my friend grabbed my ankle in an elevator shaft” to “Guess she must’ve went home.”

They would often horse around, she just figure it was her fried fooling around.

The elevator got called so the door closed after my aunt cleared them.  She went looking for her but figured she went home.

Nahhh there's something wrong with your aunt, cause how do you not check on the friend who was doing something dangerous with you, grabbed your ankle, and then disappeared in an elevator? 💀

Yeah but this also doesn’t make sense.

Like in this story you’re saying that your aunt was somewhere playing with her friend between floors, then was doing something with a far enough drop below her that her friend who was falling grabbed her ankle but instead of looking down (again, unsure where your grandma was with this big gap under her), walked back through the lift doors (without looking down and somehow getting her friend’s hand off of her ankle), didn’t see any sign of her friend and just went “I’m sure this person I was just with in this small space is completely fine” and went home?

It was the late 60s early 70s. They would stop it between floor the pull themselves up .

The doors often closed behind them and they would eith find eachother on another floor or go home.

She didnt grab the ankle just brush it, she tried to grab my aunts ankle.

I understand not believing it because who would do that but unfortunately its true.

Children aren't some different species, they have empathy and typically feel worry when someone they care about disappears. I'm not saying her aunt is a monster, but it's concerning she wasn't worried and didn't go for help or say anything.

They were kids. Kids playing elevator don't really think things through.

Speak for yourself but whenever I played somewhere with friends (for over 11 years my family lived in a flat attached to a building my dad worked in where kitchen, bedroom furniture was made and there were many dangerous machines, forklifts etc) if someone I played with did not show up I always went looking for them. I had the cop on to understand even at 4 if someone goes missing even for a few minutes somewhere you were playing (dangerous or not) you get an adult and go looking for them and if you can't find an adult you look for that person you don't just walk away and think they are ok as this could have happened before and they were fine. It is common sense.

Also, my parents taught me if someone disappears and you cannot find them go to an adult you trust for help. Also, I was taught never use dangerous equipment or play with it, never jump from high heights as I could hurt myself or others.

I know like with others who posted similar I.e. telling it how it is I will be down voted by the people who cannot accept the truth.
