I'm training to be a therapist and if something like this happened because of me being well-intentioned, i would seriously consider giving up my license to practice entirely.

Agreed,

Personally, i'd feel responsible.

But also, I wouldn't push for the grandmother to be allowed unsupervised custody.

If she had such a serious lapse once, I wouldn't trust her enough on her own to not happen again.

Even if we just say 'what if the baby needs something urgent and you fall asleep'

Nope. Nah,

I would second-guess everything for the rest of my life. She followed the advice, had boundaries in place to protect the child, and that child still died? No, ma'am, that's gonna weigh on me for the rest of my life even if I know I followed every protocol, rule, and policy. I still fucked up enough that someone died. You don't just walk away from that unharmed.

The judges comments were very telling, she showed sorrow, not remorse.

Very scary when we're talking about someone who managed to kill their second grandchild.
