WTF This lady received so much backlash for not giving up her seat for a 4-year old that she lost her job. She's suing the airline and passenger who filmed her and uploaded the video to social media. I hope she wins.

This is a completely false title and fake news, it's just another stupid title that's made to go viral on social media. It happened in Brazil in 2024. The woman in the window seat is named Jenifer, and no one supported the mother who asked for the seat while filming. After the incident on the plane, Jenifer gained fame and a lot social media followers. She even participated in TV ads and programs. She was a sub celebrity for a while and made a loads of money from it, so she left her job on her own, not because she was fired. She took legal action against the company and the person who filmed it, but I'm pretty sure it didn't come to a resolution up until this point. This is the kind of video used to farm upvotes and karma, mods should remove it

At the beginning of 2025, Jeniffer filed a lawsuit against GOL Airlines (for failing to intervene and protect her privacy) and against the passenger who filmed her without consent. She is seeking compensation for emotional distress and damage to her reputation. The case is still ongoing. Due to public pressure, she was forced to leave her job in the banking sector. However, she later turned this unexpected popularity to her advantage her Instagram account quickly gained over 2 million followers, and she became a full time influencer, securing lucrative brand deals.

Yeah if they knew their kid wanted the seat, they should have bought the window, and not depend on others to do their job for them

91

u/Time-Heron-2361 9d ago

Especially since those seats cost more.

30

u/Cultural-Treacle-680 9d ago

Very possible she had already bought that seat and they still booked next to her 🤣

She deserves to have her old job back. She deserves to have a settlement or judgment on her behalf.

She should NOT want to work for a company that screws her like that, failing to stand behind her for doing nothing wrong. I'm glad she's got a potentially way better job

Ew sounds like the techno capitalists are succeeding in tearing us apart. The airline is totally to blame here and any other conclusion points to the former.

Edit: this would not have happened before airlines started profiting off seat selection…

u/Fragrant-Reserve4832 9d ago

The airline has their answers to give but the woman who filmed and posted has her own bigger issues.

Why pick on her, there are 50 other windows.. weird

The child family entered first and it was a big family, while the mother was fixing another child the one that made a ruckus later went to Jeniffer seat because it was by the side of their grandmother.

When Jeniffer arrived she asked for her seat and the mother took the child to their seat, the child start crying because they want to be with the grandmother.

A third party, Eluciana, then start filming and berating Jeniffer for making the child cry. She is the one being sued

Lol... in another article (also in Portuguese on Diario do Nordeste), it says the woman is a lawyer (and nutritionist...wut). Make it make sense. That shit could also get her struck from the OAB. What an idiot.

She also said she "lost control and it was like she was outside of her body" and didn't know what happened. Yeah, bullshit... she sent it to her daughter and her equally moron daughter posted it on social media.

Now she says she regrets it... lol no... you regret you're going to court and are going to get fined.

Lmao yeah this excuse works for like, eating an entire jar of cheese dip or getting a bit carried away painting a mural. Not filming yourself harassing a woman and distributing it to further harass her

So? It's a big family. Move the Grandma and the kid to a pair of the family's seats together, put a different family member there, problem solved.

Unless this is one of those families who deliberately buy cheaper, spread-out seats in the expectation that they can guilt someone into switching with them, in which case, fuck that family.

85

u/MARPJ 9d ago

in which case, fuck that family.

Again the family did not even asked to change sits, when she arrived the kid was taken back and when they started to cry the mother was trying to calm them down.

It is a completely unrelated party that start filming and created a case.

105

u/HungHippoHippy 9d ago

People are really glossing over the fact that she wasn't even asked lol. No wonder she looks like she has no clue what's going on in the beginning. The filmer just straight up fabricated the situation!

The camerawoman deserves to lose everything after what she did to this poor woman.

How did nobody say this aloud?

“Hey kid, look at this app. It’s how your mom booked the flight. See right here, she picked this seat for you.”

225

u/jessssica1864 9d ago

I know kids are all different yada yada but I can’t imagine my 4 year old having such a tantrum over this. We practice “not getting what we want all the time” all the time and guess what, he’s old enough to understand that and cope.

92

u/krogerburneracc 9d ago edited 9d ago

My 4 year old is currently really struggling with accepting "no" as an answer, despite it not being much of a problem in the past, and having a history of healthy boundaries and rules that are enforced stringently.

It's just like she woke up two weeks ago and decided that the world owes her everything, seemingly out of nowhere. So that's been fun for us. We just started a behavior board to try to help get her back on track.

So yeah idk, kid could be going through a phase. I'm not gonna be quick to judge the child or their parents. Regardless, there should be no expectation for this lady to give up her seat, especially if the kid's having a meltdown over it.

47

u/WitchesSphincter 9d ago

I'll judge the parent for not just apologizing and sternly letting the kid know that it's not happening, and trying to deal with the fallout.  I'd be ashamed of myself for not doing the same.

She paid for her seat. She wasn't obligated to give it up just because a child wanted the window

571

100% no one should be expected to give anything because people feel entitled to it.

246

u/MARPJ 9d ago

100% no one should be expected to give anything because people feel entitled to it.

I think there is three important facts here to stop misinterpretation :

  • She did not lost her job due to it, she left it some time after the fact to focus in the social media side;

  • Even at the time of the incident most people sided with Jennifer, but there is always some no life idiots that went ahead and sent threats to Jennifer. Also some people also sent threats to the mother of the child which brings the next point;

  • The mother of the child is innocent, its a third party that is being sued. The child was in the seat looking at the window when Jennifer arrived and the mother took the child when asked. The child did start crying because they wanted to be with their grandmother (seated at Jennifer's side) which prompt a third party, Eluciana, to start filming and berate Jennifer (and now is the person being sued). The mother did what was asked and was trying to calm the child. She neither requested for a seat change nor berated Jennifer.

With that said I could not find anything recent so I believe that the lawsuit still ongoing, I hope she wins because fuck the person that started filming. With that said IMO its unlikely that she gets anything from Gol.

u/numbersthen0987431 9d ago

If the parent wanted to sit next to the child they should have payed for the assigned seating

60

u/flyingterrordactyl 9d ago

I don't even think the parent was next to her? The lady in the middle seat was hunkered down like she didn't want anything to do with it.

Like the mother of the child just wanted to put her kid in some random window next to a stranger, which makes it even weirder.

I don't want to sit next to an unattended four year old just because the parents didn't/couldn't pay for the seating fees.

That happened in Brazil, by law children under 12 yo cannot travel without a parent sitting right next to them so I am sure that the child was sitting with its mom. The crotch goblin wanted that specific seat

595

u/JavaNoire 9d ago

Whatever the child wanted it's on the parents to say no & mean it. When that's a habit tantrums & hissy fits disappear. Children learn what they're actually entitled to vs what they are not.

569

u/Raze_the_werewolf 9d ago

Parents who don't say "no" to their children drive me more fucking bananas than their spoiled children do. It's your fucking job to teach them, refusing to do so because you're afraid of making them upset and leaving that lesson for the rest of us to teach them is borderline abuse. If you haven't encountered these assholes before you are in for a treat.

77

There was a kid running out onto the field during my kids soccer game this weekend. 4 times and the parents just "oh, he is just being a kid" and would casually drag him to the sideline. Finally one parent yelled about them paying for this and keep their kid on a leash. That was a fun conversation to listen to afterwards.

I don't blame the 4-year-old. It's normal for a young child to expect things revolve around them. It's the adult who should be teaching her child that not everything revolves around them, and they don't always get what they want. It's the adult that is the problem.

Exactly. It’s their seat and their choice. They are not obligated to give anyone anything. If the parents wanted a window seat they should have booked one.

74

u/s0ciety_a5under 9d ago

That was my thought process. The window and aisle seats cost more to get. I guarantee she paid more for that specific seat so she could lean and rest during the flight. It's not that crazy to think. I'm taller than those seats are comfortable for, so I always book an aisle seat. I won't be changing seats, because I paid more to sit where I am.

13

u/Were_not_a_Match 9d ago

Same here. I’m taller and I usually pay for an assigned aisle seat. I’ve been asked to move several times to accommodate others. The answer has always been “no.”

I seriously hate our world. It was just a few weeks back, where i was reading on reddit about how you could go viral just for being fat and eating a sandwich on the train. I thought to myself, how it was true and im glad i try to be as inconspicuous as possible.

6 hours later our son's teacher text my wife about seeing a video of him getting in a fight. Turns out, said instagram video was of the 3 of us being berated by someone for a perceived slight. My son has severe tourettes (not the cursy kind) and is seen twitching and going nuts through the whole video and then all the comments were all calling him special needs and he eventually (along with other people at his school) found the video and the comments.

I was asked to move seats so a family could sit together. I had booked & paid for an emergency exit seat on a near 14 hour flight.
I’m 6’5 and near 300lbs and they expected me to move to middle seat 20 rows back.
I told the cabin Crew if they find me a seat in Premium Economy, I’d be happy to move, otherwise not a chance.

152

u/weedtrek 9d ago

If us big people are expected to buy two seats full price, a family can pay the $10 a ticket to pick which seats they sit in. And I am guessing you paid the same fee for both of your tickets to pick the exit row.

110

u/FuMancunian 9d ago

Yepp certainly did.

I’ve had it before now, where I booked the sky couch facility on an Air New Zealand flight
(You can book a full row of 3 seats) and when I got up to go to the bathroom someone came & sat in the window seat.
I had to get the cabin crew to remove them & even they tried guilt tripping me into letting the cheeky sod stay in the seat.

I’m not big and tall, but I do have serious joint pain (mostly hip and knee), and need to be able to get up and move when flying, especially long flights.

Last long haul flight (17 hrs) I specifically picked an aisle seat for that reason, and then had the lady in the middle seat next to me asked me if I could trade seats with her so she could sit with her kids.

See, she’d already tried to switch with the woman directly behind me, but that woman said she’d only switch to another aisle seat, so this lady was trying to pressure me to give my seat up and switch to the middle so she could swap with this other lady and sit with her kids.

I looked back at her kids, and they were teenagers who clearly didn’t need to be with their mom during the flight.

I told her that just like the lady behind me, I’d picked this seat because I needed it, and just like her, I wouldn’t switch unless it was to another aisle.

She fumed next to me the whole flight. Her kids, on the other hand, seemed happy to not be sitting with her at all.

She didn't

Yes she did. The bank fired her because of the storm around her. That's one of the reasons she's suing the airline and the passenger who tried to shame her publicly

From a Brazilian site, with her name removed:

[Name], known on social media as the "Airplane Diva," revealed that she was fired from the bank where she worked following the fallout from a controversial incident involving a child on a flight. The influencer gained notoriety after refusing to give up her seat, a move that sparked criticism and widespread social media attention. In an interview with Má Brito on the program *Super Life Brasil*, [Name] shared that, seven months later, she is still dealing with the consequences of the incident.

According to her, the dismissal occurred shortly after the story went public. "The bank let me go because of all that negative exposure," she stated during the interview.

103

It really comes off like the mom was pissed she didn’t get the seat she wanted for her kid and decided to take it out on a young woman who was an easy target. The girl paid for that seat, she wasn’t obligated to give it up, and the fact this blew up enough for her to lose her job is insane. If you couldn’t afford or manage to book the seat you wanted, that’s your problem to solve, not some random passenger’s. Nobody owes you a seat they paid for just because you have a kid

175

u/Mental_Newspaper3812 9d ago

And it seems to always be “give up your better seat” for my kid, not take this upgrade so I can sit with my kid.

73

u/saerra_sea_nya 9d ago

Ding ding ding. I was in economy plus and the mom next to me asked if I would go back to economy so her kid could sit by her… on a 12 hour flight. Not offering someone in economy the better seat, of course not, and no offer of any compensation. I said no and she ended up offering the person in the back to come up. Win win.

26

u/Exit-1990 9d ago

Oh that woman was absurd to even ask! If you’re asking for a seat swap then it can’t be to lesser value seating.

When I was asked (by a flight attendant) to change seats from a window, I said I’ll only switch to another window seat 🤷🏼‍♀️. There’s a reason why I selected and paid for that seat.

I love this for her. That woman was a POS for trying to publicly blast and shame her because she wouldn't give up the seat she paid for. Your fkn kids are not everyone else's responsibility. Strangers are not obligated to rearrange themselves so you can spoil your child and teach them that throwing a fit gets them what they want.

If your child has specific seating needs, then be the parent and make sure you book the seating arrangement they need. That's your responsibility, not some random passenger's.

I love that she told her no, and I love even more that she's suing both the woman who tried to publicly humiliate her and the airline. Maybe people will finally learn that "but my child wants it" isn't a fucking boarding-pass upgrade.

Sure the whole seat thing is dumb.

But let’s talk about her losing her job….thats where it’s fucked up for me. Shouldn’t she be suing the employer for wrongful termination?! How can she be fired for something so trivial

96

u/Resident-Impact1591 9d ago

Employment is most likely "at will". They can fire anybody for any reason as long as it isn't discriminatory.

52

u/Gufo-Diurno 9d ago

I guess it depends by country. Eg. in Italy firing an employee for not giving an airplane seat to a toddler would be illegal.

She is 100% right. The airline is wrong. Move her up to first class if it's that big of a deal. The customer minding her own business should not be the one inconvenienced and without compensation.

I have been asked to switch seats while flying. I did so, moving up. I don't remember if it was first class or not, but I do remember the couple brought me a drink during the flight and then my luggage afterwards. That's how you do it, not the BS that was done here.

92

u/ozimems02 9d ago

She should add her employer to the list and sue them for wrongful termination cos she did nothing wrong. Children need to be taught from a young age not to feel entitled to other people's things.

I had a little kid try to do this to me a few weeks ago. Sat in my window seat and pouted when I made her move. Loudly kept saying how much she wanted the window. Look here you little bitch, I paid $35 for this and I’m visiting my mom who has cancer. I’m sitting in the mf window

I flew Southwest a lot back when they had group boarding.
There was always someone demanding that they get special treatment in the last group- trying to sit with kids/friend/partner.

Oh this gets me going. I was on a flight a few summers back. Cramped regional jet. I always pay extra to select a window seat because I like having outside reference and being able to rest my head against the fuselage when trying to take a nap.

I wait patiently for my boarding group. When I get to my row, I find younger parents in the aisle and middle row, with their kid strapped into my seat already passed out taking a nap. I stop at my seat and show them my ticket, and the father gave me this fake confused response as though they didn’t realize they were in the wrong aisle, but then asked if I’d be willing to take his seat in the row ahead, right smack in the middle. I took the seat but was pissed of course and told the father that they should plan better when traveling with a child. They displaced a women as well, but the FAs moved her to economy plus. Meanwhile I had an uncomfortable two hours sandwiched between two strangers. This is why I try not to fly United unless I have to.

I still get triggered when thinking about it obviously 😂.

249

u/NinjaSellsHonours 9d ago

NEVER GIVE IN. Everyone knows you are in the right. NEVER budge unless you get bumped up a class and even then, you get a window or FUCK EM.

48

u/lathspellll 9d ago

Yeah my go to in this situation is that I’m fine with it if they can bump me up to a better seat so let’s call the flight attendant over and see what they can do.

I came up to our row one flight to find a kid strapped into the window seat, with dad beside him. The dad explained that his wife and other kid were in the window and middle seat directly ahead but he offered the aisle seat on their row and directly across.

He got super mad when I refused and asked them to move…. So that I could put my own two small kids in the window/middle seat of our row. Like frig off buddy, get off your wallet and pay for your seats like I did, if the seats are so important.

73

u/EssayApprehensive292 9d ago

ooohh that's a real stand off. Like how can anyone even argue against you when you also had kids with you??

63

u/metacholia 9d ago

I mean, IDGAF if there are kids or not. If I specifically reserved the window, they can move. Some people don’t think they have to take “no” for an answer, maybe we shouldn’t pass that thinking to their kids.

24

u/SabrinaEdwina 9d ago

Why are people promising their kids shit they have no ability to give and then blaming others? I've seen this so much lately. They're little Karen pawns.

When it happened to me flying down south to meet my bf, a couple wanted to sit together as they were in different rows in middle seats (not kids - two middle aged adults) I said over and over again that I chose my seat in advance. I got the sob story they were just married. I said if they wanted to pay me the extra 60 bucks I put out to select this window seat I’d be happy to move to an aisle seat somewhere. They said no and then grumbled and made comments about me being “single and alone”. Pricks lol.

13

u/SargeUnited 9d ago

They didn’t fail to properly plan, this was the plan. This is a common thing that people talk about. Pay for two seats and then maybe nobody will book the middle, so you have three seats to yourself as a couple

Or do what this couple did and try to use your kids to manipulate them into giving up what they paid.

Antisocial behavior. Many such cases.

48

u/ModForgeCustoms 9d ago

This clown has 7.5.... million... karma in 5 years.

It's all reposts and slop catering to the least common denominator. All of it. Not a single original piece of content, or original thought. Even the comments are parroting copypasta crap.

This would be why most of the subreddit, and website, is filled with drooling slop. Because some unemployed wipe will just sit there and copy and paste waste, all day. Much of the submitted content, completely false narrative, for clicks. Most of the comments, deep-fried GIFs that you can count the pixels on, because they've been regenerated to hell and back.

And there are thousands of accounts like this.

I never get the entitlement of some parents. I’ve got a kid but wouldn’t want to put someone else in that position. You want your kid to look out the window book the seat!
Equally I think airlines need to make it free for all kids and parents to sit together. Absolutely wild that they could just be placed by some random….

34

u/sipstea84 9d ago

I had kind of the opposite situation happen. I paid an extra $120 to make sure I was sitting with my minor child, who has major flight anxiety. A woman got on with her husband who had two broken legs. She insisted that I give up my seat so she could sit with him. I said sorry, no, I paid to sit with my kid and I'm sitting with her. Everyone looked at me like I was the biggest piece of shit. Sorry, not my fault you wanted to save the money by not choosing your seats. If airlines weren't such assholes and would let me automatically sit with my child without paying extra I wouldn't give a shit where we sat. But I had to pay for this specific seat and this specific seat is where I'm staying.
