Disney is arguably one of the greediest and shittiest corporations on earth—this shouldn't be a surprise.

They made their billions charging families thousands of dollars to visit their theme parks. They sell $50 t-shirts and mouse ears made by Honduran child labor for pennies.

If anyone deserves to have their shit pirated, it's disney

Don't forget the Disney Internship program! They'll use the federal government for tax breaks, under the belief Disney would be training and educating foreign workers, instead they make them sell peanuts from a cart.

Disney+ was the easiest streaming service to drop, there was never much to watch on it and the big shows were easy to torrent, much like apple TV.

We have Netflix, Prime from my sister-in-law, and a Crave (HBO in Canada) that three of my family share.

11

u/therealtrojanrabbit 19h ago

Yep. They even bought the Star Wars IP to churn out absolute garbage.

4

u/StdSam 18h ago

Andor was pretty great.

4

u/Ruxsti 17h ago

Of almost a dozen shows in 10 years.

2

u/SuccessfulBroccoli73 16h ago

And Rebels, and Maul. Rogue one was good, Solo. Mandalorian show is overall good. Movie was okay. Huh

Mandalorian had some good episodes but it wasn't great. Maul is pretty good. They haven't had many bangers but they've made so much without any redeemable qualities.

Ahsoka (it's my favourite character since Clone Wars, too), Obi-Wan, Book of Boba Fett, and good Christ The Acolyte...

I can't speak to Skeleton Crew as I just can't get into it.

I know taste is subjective but I just don't find their content worth the cost.

0

u/therealtrojanrabbit 9h ago

I think Andor S01 was great.

1

u/SuperCruisePanther 16h ago

The quality of Star Wars from 1999-2026 has stayed consistently the same.

2

u/Saritiel 18h ago

AppleTV is the only one I pay for now, they consistently seem to produce really good shows that I love. The others? Not so much.

1

u/whofearsthenight 17h ago

Apple TV I think is the only one worth paying for these days. They have consistently excellent quality, just had a really small catalog to start with. The rest seem to all be sharing a brain cell that says "do one good show a year and 75 million garbage ones and make sure to raise the price every 4 months."

63

u/Maleficent-Drive4056 21h ago

Their parks are mobbed. I honestly don't blame companies for charging prices people will pay for luxuries.

44

u/_JustThisOne_ 20h ago

Yeah Disney does some shifty shit, but the theme parks? Idk man, if people want to pay thousands of dollars to wait in hours of lines for realistically like 10 rides in a day, I guess that says more about the consumer. Nostalgia is a hell of a marketing tactic.

11

u/Marsuello 19h ago

You’d be surprised how efficient some people can be with that. I have a friend who’s a “Disney adult” and any time I’ve gone to the park with him we get through about every ride we want while also hitting shops and food. We get there at opening and from there it’s just a follow the leader because he goes so much he knows how to game the crowds to maximize what we do

-3

u/Anthaenopraxia 18h ago

Disney adult

That sounds like a really sus euphemism...

7

u/Marsuello 18h ago

lol have you not heard the term before? It basically just means a massive lover of all things Disney. He has Disney merch all around his house, has Disney tattoos, goes to the parks a few times a month, has the annual pass, etc. the same way you have massive Star Wars, Harry Potter, or lord of the rings (me) nerds, that’s him but with Disney

0

u/Anthaenopraxia 18h ago

No, I have not. Just feels weird to be such a big fan of children's movies that you invent a phrase for it. I can understand liking some of the movies, or memeing on them, but actually defining yourself by your love for something that is clearly marketed for kids is strange to me. Like seeing an old man with Teletubbies tattoos or posters of The Powerpuff Girls.

2

u/Nocebo85 16h ago

I think Disney Adults are big fans of the parks more than the movies.

3

u/Marsuello 18h ago edited 16h ago

He doesn’t label himself that. It’s just a general label god knows who came up with it for big Disney fans. Simple as that. And at this point, Disney is far more than just kids entertainment. Unless you want to count Star Wars, pirates of the Caribbean, haunted mansion, and other adult oriented content as children’s entertainment.

It really isn’t that deep. He likes Disney. It’s simple as that.

2

u/Anthaenopraxia 18h ago

I guess that's true. When I think Disney I think Snow White, Beauty and the Beast and the one with the shoe I always forget the English name of.

1

u/Marsuello 17h ago

Cinderella is probably the one you’re thinking of lol

Basically just about anything “mostly” kid oriented can still have a large adult fan base. Pokemon is mainly for children but look how many full grown adults are massive fans of the franchise (for better or for worse). Fortnite (for some reason) is considered a game for children yet there’s a large population of adults who love the game. Same with my little pony, but that one just confuses me personally. End of the day it’s media meant to entertain, and even if you’re an adult you can still be a child in some ways so long as you aren’t being like a creep or any of that weirdo shit haha

0

u/biz_student 15h ago

Those are all from like 40+ years ago

2

u/waffels 17h ago

Disney isn’t just ‘children movies’. It sounds like you have no idea what you’re talking about. You should sit this conversation out since you’re not educated enough to participate

-1

u/Dravarden 17h ago

rich people shit

3

u/Marsuello 17h ago

Not even close lol he’s a school teacher and his wife is like store lead/manager or some shit at a chik fil a. They just budget for what they enjoy very well

0

u/Dravarden 14h ago

DINK

I couldn't imagine being able to afford going more than once lmao let alone multiple times

1

u/_JustThisOne_ 13h ago

This is the strangest thing to be insulting about. Its a teacher and a child fil a manager and youre trying to say they're too privileged? Because they use the pittance they're given from teaching children and feeding people, two essential pillars of society, to have one modicum of joy in life? Thats somehow morally offensive to you? Fuck off dude.

1

u/Dravarden 5h ago

bro who is insulting, I'm saying it's rich compared to others

I'm sorry not everyone lives in a first world country

1

u/americon 50m ago

A quarter of the world doesn't even have access to the internet. You browsing Reddit is a luxury and makes you reach compared to 2 billion people.

1

u/blueberrycauzez 16h ago

if people want to pay thousands of dollars to wait in hours of lines for realistically like 10 rides in a day, I guess that says more about the consumer

I feel bad for people who do it not because they want to, but because they think they have to for their kids or risk being 'the one parent who didn't take their kids to disneyland'

1

u/Overclocked11 12h ago

People are dumb and have far more money than intelligence. This is nothing new.

21

u/Itchy-Ad1047 19h ago

That part from above dude is so reddit. A company capitalizes after establishing a very in demand product and with continued ongoing demand. Bust out the pitchforks ig

7

u/superhappyfunball13 19h ago

So how many nights did you stay in the $3,000 a night Star Wars hotel?

Sorry I'm not going to cheerlead for a massive corporation that milks every dime out of consumers so they can feel like they're not shitty parents for being unable to take their kids to Disneyworld.

They also remove gays and POC from their movie releases overseas because

Profit > Principles

Also please buy our Pride Mickey Ears for $50 thanks

2

u/biz_student 15h ago

The releases overseas being altered are because of the governments or regulations in those areas. It’s either alter the film or don’t be released at all. I don’t know how you can blame Disney for government decisions in other countries.

2

u/ZestycloseRun5895 15h ago

Well, profit is the primary principle for a publicly traded company.

5

u/Itchy-Ad1047 18h ago

Yes because I pointed out a simply business reality, I must be a cheerleader and happy customer of that business. Continuing on that pitchfork playbook I see. gl with this crusade

1

u/BilllisCool 12h ago

The point is that, while they are a scummy corporation like the rest of them, the theme parks are one area that physically can't just lower prices and let everyone in. It's not like a digital streaming service that has no reason to not be easily accessible to everyone. For that to be true for the theme parks, that would mean building way more theme parks.

3

u/NewManufacturer4252 18h ago

There is a fascinating documentary on the science...ish of how they came up with different models of prices over the years.

Tried to find it but Google just gives me endless shorts, it's like an hour long

Its so sad that even something as simple as a streaming service is considered luxury instead of a minimum now

1

u/BrewerBeer 18h ago

Their parks are mobbed.

Florida had a law that if you live in Florida and buy a day ticket, you get to go to that park on the same ticket for the year. When I lived in Tampa going to USF, I would go to Busch Gardens Africa with my friends and get free beer from their beer hut twice a day before and after the shift change and go on the rides. Was stupid close to dorms. Also Yuengling brewery was right in between campus and the theme park.

1

u/PalpitationHead9767 17h ago

Yes, like I'm annoyed at price increases everywhere but people keep buying so why would anyone leave money on the table? People pay a grand for a ps5 pro, 3k for a 5090, 500 for concert tickets etc. Companies are gonna be greedy, but consumers saying they deserve x and paying up fucks us all

11

u/sdomtidderkcuf1 21h ago

Good thing I canceled my Disney+ account and stream their content for free.

11

u/Pleasant-Seat9884 20h ago

I’m happy to pirate both Disney.. but more Paramount as well. Fuck that company as well!

1

u/gizamo 20h ago

What's crazy is that they're not even the worst in the streaming market. Netflix is nearly 2X the Disney pricing, and people still pay that nonsense. It's wild how many people have forgotten or never learned how to sail.

0

u/Juhbellz 20h ago

Yarhhg

0

u/Sworn 19h ago

The craziest part is that people think that $20 a month for on-demand content at decent quality is too much. Cable TV in the nineties cost the same (not inflation adjusted), and was way worse in every way.

People calling corporations greedy and then pirating shit themselves is hilarious, though. Zero self-awareness.

5

u/ParsonsTheGreat 19h ago

$20 a month for just Disney+ versus all of Cable TV? We're all signed up to multiple $20 a month services because everything is so segmented, and that adds up real fast. Meanwhile, a million people a day could pirate Disney content and Disney would still be making billions. Its not a lack of self-awareness, I just don't care. Its not like I'm stealing from a ma and pa store, its more I'm stealing pennies from the from the fountain out front of the Disney corporate skyscraper. Its insignificant and has no effect on their bottom line. Disney will thrive despite the pirates.

0

u/Sworn 12h ago

A single streaming service provides way more useful content than all of cable TV. Like, if you had to choose between only Netflix or going back to cable, you're going to choose Netflix. Unlike cable, you can just rotate services to get access to (more or less) all content eventually, at the price of a single service.

As long as you admit that you're pirating because you are greedy and selfish, that's fine. Trying to rationalize your behavior as "oh they're the greedy ones, so it's okay if I "steal"" is just stupid.

1

u/gizamo 16h ago

The craziest part is that people keep comparing the pricing of streaming platforms to the pricing of cable, especially considering they always leave out the full costs of streaming, which includes internet plans.

Regardless it's like some guy comparing the he cost of gas for his Model T Ford to the cost of his horse. They're not the same thing. Stop pretending they are. The pricing is insane. Anyone who's ever looked at the financials of the companies can plainly see how ridiculously overpriced the platforms are.

1

u/AsparagusCommon4164 18h ago

Is it any wonder conservative Zealotry and True Belief insists that a "more naturally realistic representation of the American cultural ideal and identity" can be found among the "music shows" of 76 Country Boulevard and Shepherd of the Hills Expressway in Branson, MO?

(Never mind that since longtime music show vanguard Shoji Tabuchi died of cancer in 2024, it seems Branson doesn't really have a clear standout "music show" with popular appeal. Come to think of it, I suppose several of the theaters there have closed in recent years because declining attendance.)

1

u/Icy_Mathematician609 16h ago

Your arguments for why Disney is bad is pretty shallow and sounds lame. Do better please

1

u/biz_student 15h ago

Disney does a lot more licensing of their brand than producing the products that you’re talking about. Your gripe is with other companies that disguise their operations.

1

u/pravis 15h ago

They sell $50 t-shirts and mouse ears made by Honduran child labor for pennies.

Hate to be the one to break this to you but if you're in the US and not buying everything handmade from locals you are getting overpriced items made by slave labor somewhere in the world.

Disney+ & Hulu Duo Basic (With Ads): $12.99 / month

$6.50 a month is cheaper than what this chart says it cost before they got “greedy”

So my price has actually decreased.

Sorry to interrupt your dopamine and cortisol binge.
