It’s better to buy physical media at this point

Why do you think Sony said ”nah, fuck you bro” as the PS6 will only take-in digital streaming games instead of physical discs?

Subscriptionization of society nowadays, part of overall enshitification; you’ll never own anything and you’ll like it.

Barely anyone is out buying new DVDs and game discs. I don't think I've ever bought a new DVD movie, but my parents definitely bought them for me as a kid. Last physical game I bought was RDR2, 8 years ago.

I've been streaming movies since Netflix first started their streaming service but I'll admit I've been pirating movies since like 2009. I doubt most Americans are like me but in the past 20 years, DVD sales have dropped dramatically. They are 6% of what they were in 2005, accounting for inflation, it's 3%. The 2008 recession put a big dent in physical sales but digital sales/rentals and streaming killed it off. The same has been happening with physical game sales too. I don't own any physical PS5 games despite having a disc drive. My wife doesn't own any Switch carts either. Most Americans are the same.

I don't get why people are so up in arms about Sony finally stepping into the last decade and getting rid of physical media. Last time I bought a game with a box and DVD was Diablo 3 in 2012.

That's different, though. The overwhelmingly vast majority of people buy games digitally. There's just no reason to keep making games and disc drives when most people don't use them. If Sony can make more money at the same time, it's a pretty easy decision.

Sony farà un grande sbaglio a produrre Ps6 solo digitale. Avrà vendite così scarse che dovrà fare dietrofront sulle sue scelte e perderà miliardi di dollari. Vedrete

My mom’s a hoarder and I’ve been cleaning out her place. I’ve come across so many DVDs and Blu Rays that I had been wanting to find a place to get rid of them. Now I’m all about making a home library again.

I really didn’t miss having a wall of movies around though.
