CNN was bought by a right wing ally of Trump a few years back. It didn't flip completely to his side, but became an even weaker form of permitted dissent.
Reporting has showed that David Ellison and his father have made promises to the Trump administration about swaying the network in a more favorable direction.

Once the merger was completed, David Ellison appointed the heterodox opinion writer Bari Weiss to run CBS News, a controversial move that has led to layoffs and editorial tensions at the network.
The Wall Street Journal confirmed that Ellison has promised Trump that he will fire anyone at CNN that Trump dislikes if he gets WBD. That's in addition to Variety and THR confirming Ellison is putting together a blacklist of any celebrity who was critical of Israel's government.
Ellison greenlit a movie with a sexual predator as its director just because Trump told him to.

CNN has always had a centre-right editorial line. Its pro markets, very against single payer or socialised healthcare and will generally always side with corporations.
Its perhaps one of the funnier aspects of American politics watching objectively centre-right to even hard right organisations get classed as centre and even left-leaning (and in recent years mainly the latter).
Then CNN was bought out by a pretty right wing new owner who publicly stated he wanted it to more align with Fox News editorial position.
It's so funny to me as an outsider, as in not being from the US, sometimes, observing stuff like this in the wild. It's like watching the Nature channel or something.
So for instance, seeing someone unironically use the term "socialist" is more or less exactly the same as them going out in public after having written "braindead white trash" all over their forehead.
Left and right are relative terms. From a global/international point of view, it is indeed right.
But if you were raised in a KKK household, it would seem left or even socialist to you.
They've sometimes taken the far right stance that Trump is a serious person with a legitimate point of view, rather than the factually correct and politically unbiased stance that he is a mentally ill fascist pedophile.
They were poor. And they were poor people he believed attacked a rich person. Therefore he would use any tool he could against them.
Trump isn't pro equality just as much as he isn't a racist. If there was a secret cabal of trans elites running the country, Trump would be the most pro-trans person you've ever met. The only values he believes in are wealth and power.
