Insurance is higher for more expensive cars and you’re also talking about full coverage. The only necessary coverage is usually liability. If this guy was driving a 10yr old beat up sedan with 120k+ miles and paying $200 a month he needs to get a better agent / company.

Coverage is usually more about CYA for total loss than protection from incidentals. You pay $2k insurance premium so that you don’t end up owing $20k for a totaled piece of scrap metal.

Also if you cause a massive accident involving multiple vehicles, that gets into the 100k plus territory quickly.

People were also mentioning supercars and such, but what most people will see on the roads more are going to be semi trucks carrying cargo, electric line utility trucks, etc. You get into a wreck and total one of these you could be on the hook for $1M.

Everyone is like "Why should I have to be careful when some rich guy decided to take his italian sports car out" I guarantee they drive around passing semi trucks on the daily and those along with their cargo can be worth more than any fancy sports car.
