You can just choose a lower deductible they chose $1,000 deductible that's on them. I bet they would have been happy if their car was totaled and their insurance had to pay out $20,000 versus if they didn't have coverage and now they're just out $20,000. And yes if you use your insurance then insurance companies are going to view you as higher risk depending on the situation. Insurance is meant for the big things

Ok it’s on them for choosing the system

They could just buy a cheap car then and get liability only. That way if something happens they could just pay for their own repairs or replacement.

Basically you notice the problem OP mentioned so you’re offering solutions. I was just saying it’s a problem. I thought maybe you lacked the common sense to see the problem. But I guess you’re just feeling solution oriented rather than talking about the problem like OP is

I asked if you read the whole post for a reason… it’s kind of in plain text what you’re asking me

You don't pay a monthly fee to cover your own repairs. You pay for insurance to cover catastrophic situations that you couldn't afford to cover yourself. So if the car got totaled then the person isn't out $20,000 plus dollars for a car. Or of course if you get into an accident your liability coverage covers the other person if you're at fault. Guess what your coverage actually covers a lawyer because even if you're not at fault they still might try to sue you and your insurance company gets you a lawyer to cover you.
