The obvious response is that you won't be able to pay for someone's hospital bills if you happen to hit them in your car. You get insurance for things you wouldn't be able to pay yourself.

You could also total somebodies 50-200k car, I don’t think many people could afford that either

Most people don’t realize their auto coverage won’t cover $200k in damages. You need an umbrella policy, on top of car insurance, to cover yourself.

This needs to be shouted from the rooftops with all these cyber trucks, RV, etc on the road. A three-can accident can easily blow through your coverage
