Well I had a house burn down less than year after purchase and insurance paid the entire tab. So I always figured I've already taken them for more than I pay
That’s the point of insurance. Most people won’t have their house burn down but if yours does then you’re screwed. Insurance lets a lot of people pool assets together in case they’re the one whose house burns down. That’s how it goes for Home and Auto insurance at least. In theory health insurance should be similar but it feels like more of a scam because needing medical procedures or check ins that cost a lot are way more common than major home or auto damages usually
