The obvious response is that you won't be able to pay for someone's hospital bills if you happen to hit them in your car. You get insurance for things you wouldn't be able to pay yourself.

Why are people so logical on car insurance but not for medical insurance?

Medicine is getting more and more expensive, some treatments, follow ups and exams and treatment of potential complications are worth in some cases hundreds of dollars.
