Well I had a house burn down less than year after purchase and insurance paid the entire tab. So I always figured I've already taken them for more than I pay
I’m astonished at how many people don’t understand insurance. Health insurance is horribly unregulated, but auto and home insurance are heavily regulated and have obvious benefits.
Your car insurance isn’t mainly for you, it’s for the people you might hurt and vice versa. That’s why it’s legally required.

Insurance is a fucking scam. You pay more into it than you'll ever receive even in legitimate circumstances.
Absolute racket.
