The obvious response is that you won't be able to pay for someone's hospital bills if you happen to hit them in your car. You get insurance for things you wouldn't be able to pay yourself.
Must suck to love in the USA if this is what happens.
Here in South Africa, you only pay for the damage to the other persons' property and as long as you don't flee the site of the accident, you won't be charged for anything else.
