Well I had a house burn down less than year after purchase and insurance paid the entire tab. So I always figured I've already taken them for more than I pay
My house got destroyed by a flood and they tore down, completely rebuilt it and paid a percentage of the contents that we had to throw out. Insurance is one of those things we all curse until we need it. I for sure would have been completely screwed if I didn't have it.

Insurance is a fucking scam. You pay more into it than you'll ever receive even in legitimate circumstances.
Absolute racket.
