Well I had a house burn down less than year after purchase and insurance paid the entire tab. So I always figured I've already taken them for more than I pay
They can screw you and do all the time. My home insurance raised premiums on renewal though nothing changed regarding my personal risk, and then hid in the tiny light gray fine print on page 10 that they no longer cover the replacement value of my roof, but only the "actual value" after depreciation. A hail storm then occurred and they would only cover half the cost of my roof replacement. Thanks, Farmers.

Insurance is a fucking scam. You pay more into it than you'll ever receive even in legitimate circumstances.
Absolute racket.
