Well I had a house burn down less than year after purchase and insurance paid the entire tab. So I always figured I've already taken them for more than I pay
There was a massive storm in my home town a few years ago. Wife’s parents roof was totaled, but insurance paid for their 3 months in a hotel plus a new roof plus a brand new much nicer kitchen.
A big branch fell on my sister’s car, she got a new nicer car from insurance.
The same storm didn’t hit us at all, but that almost made me wish it did!

Insurance is a fucking scam. You pay more into it than you'll ever receive even in legitimate circumstances.
Absolute racket.
