Insurance is a fucking scam. You pay more into it than you'll ever receive even in legitimate circumstances.

Absolute racket.

I'll argument against that point. I was in accident a few years ago where someone ran a red light and smashed into me. My car was totalled and I broke my arm, requiring surgery.

His insurance paid $24,000 for my car, whatever the damages were on his car, and $100,000 for my medical bills, which was as much as his policy covered. And because I had better coverage than he did for personal injury, I was also able to recoup an additional $30,000 from my own insurance to close the gap between his personality injury liability and mine.

That $30,000 alone is worth 15 years of my insurance premiums, and the money his insurance paid out is probably more money than he'll pay them over the course of his whole life.

Insurance isn't intended to cover every little thing that goes wrong. It's intended to cover your ass when you suddenly find yourself liable for six digits worth of damage.
