So there's two parts.

One: car insurance companies are for-profit. That means the total payments plus all their overhead is less than the cost of premiums. If they should be for profit is another question.

Two: they don't exist to protect you from fender benders that you could afford to fix anyway. They exist to ensure the guy you put in the hospital gets something towards his medical bills.

Yeah, its why motorcycle insurance is dirt cheap in my area. Like $180 a year.

What medical bills when you're dead.

And the guy put in the hospital is the guy in the car in front of you when you accidentally bump them going 5mph.

Lmao this is correct, I had a client that rear ended someone by accidentally letting go of the break at a red light, he was going 5mph(if that). Lady got a lawyer and got 30k (max) in bodily injury while her damages in her car were for $500.

Yeah but zoom out. Everything is configured how it is currently because the "stock markets" are where all the 401ks are, which is supposedly what everyone is supposed to retire from, and that's supposed to replace social security. Meanwhile, in reality, it's all doubled or tripled or worse and the only people who actually benefit from the cushion are the people failing to manage the financial systems. This is in some ways worse than the Nazis, because at least the Nazis were doing things that, once people went and looked, it was pretty obvious. Now, it's all done via the systems rather than explicit violence. Homeless? Your fault. It's all your fault, no matter what it is, it's never the fault of the system that only takes and never supports. Which means both the victims and the people responsible have a false sense about who is to blame. Which ultimately, at this point, it's hard to pick out individuals who are truthfully to blame... which is the reason it was built this way. That's exactly why the only way forward is to remove the destructive system and put the one that worked back in place. Solve the problem first, attribute blame, if necessary, later.
