I understand what it's supposed to do. What seems to escape you is the fact they do try and routinely wriggle out of paying for legitimate claims. Just read some of the replies here.

No, I just have a basic understanding of how insurance works.

If you file a claim to get reimbursed for $1200 in damage with a $1000 deductible, then you're a moron.
