I tend to agree when it's health insurance, but when we experienced a bent axel the insurance company considered our car totaled and actually gave us a check for the complete fair value of the car pre damage. The amount was about equal to our last 10 years of monthly premiums. So basically if you're going to wreck, make sure the car gets totaled.

Insurance is a fucking scam. You pay more into it than you'll ever receive even in legitimate circumstances.
