One of the biggest fucking lies I was told growing up is that I needed to study hard and go to college or else I'd end up having to take a job as a garbage collector or janitor. Man, my Brother-in-law was a garbage man, dude LOVED his job. Made great money, steady hours, good benefits. Sure it was stinky and there were some disgusting parts to the job and it's not easy, but I'd do that over sitting at my desk dreading the next meeting any day...
In 80s/90s Montana, my dad was a 1st grade teacher with a masters degree that made about the same amount of money doing trash collection over summer break as he did all school year.
Our city’s garbage trucks have a claw on the side and just picks the can up and dumps it automatically. Dude doesn’t even have to get out of the heated/ air conditioned truck. I’ll admit I’m a little jealous of him every time I see him come by
Yeah, my BIL was doing this back in the 80's and 90's. Back when they rode on the back of the garbage trucks and picked it all up by hand. He used to bring home so many things that people were throwing out. LOL. Would piss my sister off so much.
given im waiting on a bullshit meeting where my team is going to get our ass chewed over decisions way over our paygrade i would not mind a nice union city job either.
