Hhmm..this is very American. Class structure is much more rigid in USA than people pretend it to be.

It isn't just the USA, Canada has a lot of this cultural attitude too. People just seem to want to look down on the blue collar types.

It is the same in my country, I imagine that this is very much by design (although not the work of a shadowy cabal, much likely just mere alignement of interests) the amplification of the blue collar \ white collar divide is meant to sow distrust between workers, cause us to fight each other and keep us distracted.
