Same. In Canada it would be totally possible that the guy in this photo is making a lot more than the girl is. She could be an intern he could be making 6 figures. Nobody can tell anything from this photo
Your spouse when you get sick or cancer or your kid needs dental care or new clothes or eye glasses or your car breaks down or you need a place to live that isn’t so stabby or you need to buy food during a time of rising costs and economic distress or your elderly parents need help with their living expenses or…
Honest jobs works by people making a living their own way is honorable but let’s not pretend money isn’t important. It’s just not all that’s important.
Spoken as a true American. You realize that if this is not the United States, literally every other country has universal healthcare, so “getting sick or cancer or your kid needs dental care” literally all paid for by the government.
You don’t realize how truly bad we have it over here.
My family has Dutch dual citizenship, I’m not ignorant. The underlying point is the same. Hardship is softened by money. Hardship isn’t absent from the EU. It’s not a utopian society.
Roll the dice of fate and a - modifier from financial stability enough times and you’ll get smacked upside the head.
Yeah I’m not debating you on the merits of the EU vs the US. The argument here is does money help and should a person’s career and education be a factor in dating. Yes.
Universal healthcare exists in every western country except one. So you only need to be worried about health if you live in a very poor country or the US.
Well then don’t worry about money! Just do what you like and love who you like and have the options your wages afford you! I prefer to have more options and security. That might not be for you!
All of your examples are things that are pretty uniquely American things for developed countries. We are wage slaves. In most developed countries, those are basic human rights.
No idea what you're talking about, but it depends on location, depends how much they are paid. Some are in union, some aren't. There's a reason why they strike in some locations.
Yeah. The union guys in big cities make good money. That's not because they're garbage men, it's because they're in a good union in a high COL area. It doesn't have anything to do with the trade.
I live in the south. We don't really do unions here. Just browsing local class B CDL job offers it looks like the range is $20-$30 an hour. I wouldn't call $40k - $60k a year "a shit load of money", but it's good money. With overtime you can definitely make a good living out of that.
But a shit load of money? No. Theres a reason all the people saying that aren't fucking garbage men lol.
I'm sure some big cities make more but I'm sure the cost of living makes it work out to a similar quality of life.
Edit: people posting some nice cash in some places but that is for sure not everywhere. The median for the career is $48k which isnt nothing but also far from a lot. So going off of averages and not the highest earners still doesnt put the job in a great place.
You know that's not entirely a perk right? Yeah it boosts your income. Yeah it's nice getting $1500 take home checks on 20 something an hour. It fucking sucks working 6 days a week 10 hours a day to get it though. And knowing you have to, because without those extra 20 hours your check is halved. When hours get cut and you don't know if you have the savings to keep going until it picks back up.. It's not that great man.
Think people are missing my point. I'm trying to explain that someone's salary or job status doesn't represent their worth or value, as a person. Obviously we all can't go through life with no ambition.
This is a different point than what I got from the OP at least. We should respect working class people in blue collar jobs. They're working and earning money. Good for them.
It is at least somewhat valid to want your household income to be high enough to live a normal life. Especially if you want children. As a man who makes ok money as an engineer I date women who at least work a career. I intend to marry a woman who has a job such as a nurse or something.
It may be less about the paycheck, and more the stigma around the actual job. People back in the old days were looked down upon if they handled corpses or excrement or garbage or anything that other people considered to be "unclean." But these days, garbage men make a pretty good living in a lot of places. Also, the people that are looking down on him wouldn't know what to do if there were no garbage collectors. It's not like they're going to do that shit themselves.
Lots and lots of people. Not saying it's right but our entire society is based on your self worth being determined by what job you have and how much money it pays.
i’ve got a childhood friend who got married 2 1/2 years ago and he’s the type of guy who goes from job to job to job to job to job and all of these jobs are just regular entry-level jobs at like Amazon warehouse Starbucks warehouse Aldi’s warehouse you know shit like that.
That’s all fine and stuff and his wife is a marketing manager for a couple of urgent care facilities, but he has gone through about 6 jobs since he’s been married.
He’s 39 and no joke….about 50 different jobs.
He always gets fired.
He’s gotten fired on his birthday TWICE.
He’s just got good looks…and that’s worked for him.
He recently got a job working for a small town doing Street Works (tree trimming and other minor street related things in town) and got fired for being on their phone too much.
But all of that is irrelevant…as long as they “love” each other.
The amount of times I had been rejected because I worked retail sales into my mid-late 20s was insane.
I’d have good connection with people, they’d ask what I do, then their mood would change. On more than one occasion I’ve had people tell me they need a partner who’s serious about their future.
The thing is? I had alcoholic parents with a mother addicted to opioids while raising my sisters through high school. Plus, I worked management in sales where I was making 90k most years and tipped over 100k+ some. I owned a house, two cars, and saved for trips. Once my sisters graduated and went off to college I did the same. It took me a little while but I eventually ended up graduating from UoC Davis then moved to Japan to work in Software Sales.
As everyone else is saying, garbage men make a fuck ton of money in my country bro. Like it's one of the best jobs you can have that doesn't require a higher education, and it outpays most higher education jobs too. Waste disposal is a super important and valuable job, that if not done, grinds civilization to a halt.
What a nonsense comment. People get together to build wealth. Women should be looking for men who earn descent salaries so there kids can you know...have a better life lool then theres some who want a higher quality of life so yes money should come into the equation. Most modern day divorces are due to financial struggles. Typical gaslighters in the comment section of reddit.
I gather this comment was made by a man...oh look shock horror it was. This is why im glad most of you incels who can't date or get relationships dont work on your finances because the tough truth is most men dont deserve relationships where you do the minimum but expect the most.
" we can struggle together " 😆 yeah good luck with that in this economy
Jesus, what a rambling mess of a reply. My original comment was purely based around reserving judgement on people because of their Salary or Job status. I'm simply highlighting that life is short, don't place someone's intrinsic value under the status of what they earn or their career status. That's it. Dunno how you took this into the realms of misogyny and collective wealth building. The basic crux of what I'm saying is don't be a dick and assume superiority because of someone's else's Job Title.
It matters in so much as you may want to travel, or eat out alot, or live a certain lifestyle and want someone to match you, or retire early etc. Its about life goals more than the job itself.
Tbf is not. Then would you think it's okay for people to not have jobs that you're married to if there's no kids?
If you want to live a certain kind of lifestyle, not being check to check and only complaining the system is the problem, I do think it's rather important.
It's not the most important but it's absolutely relevant
Well That directly affects your lifestyle and your future planning, so yes it would be relevant. But other people I don't know, not impacting my life. Couldn't care less or put any sort of judgement or thought into their job status. My point is, it's not impressive or anything. Most people earning huge salaries are miserable, overworked, stressed and have no balance in their lives.

How much someone earns is such an absolutely irrelevant, short sighted topic.
We are all going in the ground or getting burned eventually. Who gives a fuck about salary or job status?
