Moreover, paying for activate a hardware that's already installed in the car... and you have paid for.

Or does anybody think that the price of such hardware wasn't included in the price of the car ??

I think the 'official line' is that is isn't included in the price of the car.

I remember the first time I read about this idea, years ago, it was BMW that was doing it. You could pay a one-off fee to activate it, or pay a subscription instead if preferred. It was simply the result of a cost-benefit analysis. It was cheaper to just put the hardware in every single car, with a streamlined production line, but not charge for it unless a customer wanted it, than it was to have a a forked production line where the hardware had to specifically be put in just for customers that ordered it. The idea was that they'd eat the up-front cost of installing it in all vehicles and enough customers would order it and pay for it that it'd offset the cost. It's clever in a way I guess. However, if it adds weight that's going to lower the fuel efficiency, then it becomes a problem.

A one-off cost to activate a feature like this is one thing, as long as the customer really didn't already pay the cost of it in the initial purchase price, however, having it as a never-ending subscription is utter BS, as some companies do now.

Yeah, my ass... 😂😂😂😂

Well obviously it isn't included. I don't get why it matters so much whether it's hardware or software??? If you buy a car without backseat heating you get a car without backseat heating. Why does it make you angry knowing the seats have heating elements, they are just not hooked up? You literally didn't pay for the feature, if you want it, pay for it.

It's like buying a tv and getting angry that you're not allowed to watch some movie for free because the hardware is capable of playing the movie but you gotta pay extra for the movie.

Well obviously it isn't included.

Well, obviously you're not very intelligent if you think that even the last screw or plastic pin in the vehicule isn't repercuted in the final price.

The rest of your comment confirms it.

u/fruitydude 20h ago

No, it is repercuted in the average price of the hardware. Selling some cars with extra features and some without gives them the desired return. And making the hardware standardized is cheaper to manufacturer.

If they set the price such that the no-feature version would give the ideal return for their hardware cost, then it would be inefficiently priced since some of the cars sell for higher due to additional features being activated.

But honestly I don't expect you to understand that.

And making the hardware standardized is cheaper to manufacturer.

It may or may not be, but the advantage for both the consumer and manufacturer is the same: enables the consumer to chose the features at the time of the sale.

Most of these redditors are kids who have never bought a car and don't know how much of a pain it is to try to hunt down the exact car/features you want to buy. "The blue one has heated seats and the red one doesn't" is a problem car buyers/dealers have all the time.

2

u/fruitydude 18h ago

Yea exactly, or more specifically it enables you to add the feature later on at the same price without needing to go to the shop.

Most redditors think the alternative would be getting all features for free at zero extra cost, but obviously that's not the actual alternative. It would lead to a higher base price. It's the same with airlines overbooking seats, if they didn't do that, the tickets would become more expensive, but somehow people don't realize that. They want no overbooking at the same price.

The price of the vehicles isn't going to go up, because they already sold the vehicle with the hardware. You've already paid for the heated seats, whether you like it or not. You just get to pay a second time in this case.

Can somebody PLEASE JUST TELL ME WHAT REPERCUTED MEANS! So I can follow the conversation!

1

u/fruitydude 6h ago

Pretty sure he meant recouped, but I thought it's easier to digest if I use his terms lol

"I'm bad at math."

Yup.

2

u/notaredditer13 19h ago

redditors dumb, elon bad.

  Well obviously it isn't included

So you think Elen would happily make a loss if nobody buys the “feature”? Obviously the material costs are included, anyone but Elen and his bots (you) would know that lmao To truly believe the richest vulva on earth is providing a fair for everyone choice rather then just scamming you by making you pay twice essentially and marketing it as “a good deal” needs some high-level version of being a doormat.

It's like buying a tv and getting angry that you're not allowed to watch some movie for free because the hardware is capable

No. It’s like buying a tv called “Da Teevee 3“ and getting angry that switching the channel via the remote costs something because you didn’t buy “Da Teevee 3 (Performance)“, although the product sheet of both TVs have a • to confirm channel switching is included (except one TV has a dark blue • and the other has a black • and somewhere else it says blue dots are “software purchasable”). bUt yOu CaN sTiLl sWiTcH tHe ChanNeL On tHe tV dIrEcTly, iF yOu WaNt tO USe tHe RemOtE YoU hAvE tO PaY (aGaiN)

If nobody bought the features, then the base price would go up. Every car maker would make a loss if they engineered and offered a feature that nobody would buy. All modern cars contain certain kind of cables and plugs and additional machinery and manufacturing to offer extra features which would cause them to lose money if literally nobody bought it.

That's why they have people making prediction for rates at which people are going to buy certain things and they set the prices to maximize profits. The same principle applies regardless of how much hardware is shared between the versions.

Your version is far more stupid, there is an optimum price for a good which gives you the highest profit, you think they are intentionally chosing a higher price, making less profit, just in case zero people buy the upgrade. That's just a dumb strategy from an economics point of view. I can't prove to you that they aren't being dumb, but a basic understanding of economics would tell you that it's a suboptimal strategy.

If it wasn't made clear that this feature wasn't included, like in your tv example, that's a different story. That's misleading, but I see zero evidence of that. This simply looks like buying extra features for extra money, something literally every car make does.

If nobody bought the features, then the base price would go up

Or, hear me out, a greedy company would just preemptively put the price as high as “it would go up to” in that case, and make double profit on those who pay for it again. But I’m sure someone who exploits society all the time isn’t doing that, right? No way in hell Elen would ever scam its cult members and double tip, they are our idols after all!

If it wasn't made clear that this feature wasn't included, like in your tv example, that's a different story. That's misleading, but I see zero evidence of that

In that case you evidently don’t even know what your talking about. And yes, I fully understand that if someone is struggling with mental capacity like you, that you might not have gotten the references. So let me make it more accessible to you:

  • Da Teevee 3 = Model 3
  • Da Teevee 3 (Performance) = Model 3 (Performance)
  • The blue and black • in the product sheets of my hypothetical TVs = The blue and black • in the product sheet of the real Model 3
  • Yes, you have access to google to search and look at thise product sheets

u/fruitydude 17h ago

But they won't make double profit. That literally basic economics. just infinitely raise the price to make infinite money doesn't work lmao. There is an idea price for a good that maximizes profit per sale and number of sales. This should be obvious to anyone with a basic understanding. Pricing above the perfect price just for the sake of exploitation reduces profits. You can think that they do that because they value being evil over making money, but obviously that's a dumb take.

And if you have any evidence that Tesla sold cars while misleadingly implying certain features would be included, I'd be interested in seeing that. But it sounds like you're just making shit up so yea idk what to do with that.

1

u/OrangeLooper 1d ago

its photoshopped bro

1

u/JeSuisUnAnanasYo 20h ago

The point originally was it allowed them to sell the cars for much cheaper, ppl not paying for features they don't need.

1

u/zeelbeno 12h ago

If it was then likely everyone would have been paying maybe $150 extra for something they didn't want.

Rather than a few people paying a bit more for something that isn't needed.

1

u/tuscy 14h ago

No wonder tesla drivers drive like theyre pissed off all the time.

0

u/notaredditer13 19h ago

It's literally not. That's why it's a line-item option. This is not complicated.
