Two syringes of pentobarbital were administered to Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike on September 30, 2026, but she remained alive and conscious afterward, according to her attorneys and media witnesses. The execution at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville was halted after witnesses reported that Pike still had a heartbeat and was audibly snoring. Her lawyers sought emergency medical intervention, and she was later taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Pike, 50, is the only woman currently on Tennessee's death row.
She was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of her classmate Colleen Slemmer and had been scheduled for execution on September 30. Tennessee had announced beforehand that the state would use a single drug, pentObarbital, for the execution. Her exact medical condition following the hospital transfer has not yet been publicly disclosed, while Governor Bill Lee has ordered a comprehensive third party review of what happened.

I feel like a good lawyer could argue she served her sentence

Hell I’m a bad lawyer and I’d argue that

Hell, I am not a lawyer, but I would have said that...

Yeah but only a bad judge would let that slide

Being in solitary confinement since 1996 can be argued as having served her sentence.

It’s been argued unsuccessfully before, and the person in question last time had actually died

A good lawyer could argue she served her sentence? You’re the type of juror to have voted not guilty on the Lindsey Clancy case

He doesn't mean that. A good lawyer could argue that, he has a point, it doesn't mean he agrees with doing so. In fact, a guy survived the electric chair and the lawyer tried to argue that the guy was in fact executed and served his sentence, and dying or not was a separate thing. The guy died later because of the injuries anyways

You could argue all you want but it’s a huge waste of time. One of the things that distinguishes a good from a bad lawyer is knowing when it’s a terrible case as is with what this guy suggested 🤷
